Examples of major autonomous driving companies from around the world

Autonomous driving, after electric mobility, has emerged as the new target for numerous corporations and carmakers globally. 

The aforementioned, after all, is currently one of the most advanced forms of mobility technology and is seen as a means of drastically reducing human error, which accounts for most accidents. 

So, which companies have already made strides in autonomous driving? Here’s a list of some examples. 

Waymo

Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet Incorporated, is considered the “tip of the spear” in advancing autonomous driving. 

Currently, it operates a full self-driving taxi service in various American states as “Waymo One.” It also has existing partnerships with brands such as Jaguar Land Rover, Hyundai Motor Company, Zeekr, Toyota, Stellantis, and Nissan Motor Corporation Limited. 

Tesla

Tesla is one of the companies at the forefront of full autonomous driving. 

As most already know, it already offers a full self-driving package for its Model 3, Y, S, and Cybertruck in markets such as North America, Mexico, China, Oceania, and South Korea.

Baidu Apollo

Baidu Apollo is a leading open-source autonomous driving platform developed and maintained by Chinese tech giant Baidu. 

Like Waymo, Baidu is already operating a robotaxi service, specifically the “Apollo Go” in China. It is currently working to penetrate the global market via partnerships with entities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. 

NVIDIA 

NVIDIA, which is mostly known for its graphics card technologies, has already penetrated the autonomous driving vehicle space through the NVIDIA DRIVE - a full-stack artificial intelligence (AI) platform.

NVIDIA DRIVE consists of a hardware array known as the Drive AGX Thor. This is paired with Drive OS for the software side.

Currently, NVIDIA DRIVE has several car brand partners, which include Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, BYD, and Isuzu. 

Interestingly, Isuzu Motor Corporation has made recent strides in self-driving buses thanks to its partnership with NVIDIA.
