New Toyota 86: Are you willing to pay hiked prices?

Toyota 86 is currently on everybody’s mind and has been the talk of the town since the arrival of the 2017 version in this September. The all-new Toyota 86 is different like its launching ceremony, which took place at Clark International Speedway during the third leg of 2016 Vios Cup. The company shortly after the launch of the revised 86 informed about its increased price tag. And so the big question is, does this price hike worth the changes?

Well, let’s analyze the new 86 part by part, feature by feature and try and see what the car has on offer. According to Satoru Suzuki, TMP president, refreshed 86 embodies all the ‘characteristics’ of its predecessors along with ‘compelling’ fresh style.

Exterior Revisions

The all-new 86 holds quite a few differences over its prior versions. Take for example, the wide grille design that gives the car an aggressive and sportier stance. Also, the car now features a lower front and rear bumper that is known to enhance its aerodynamic skills. Boosting further the exterior design language are present new features like LED headlamps and tail lights, brand new fog lamp case, and alloy wheels. Also, badging is replaced with an interesting one that is seen making quite a few appearances on the 86.

Cabin Changes

86-styling

The inside holds some notable features that fully justify the sports car aura of 86. As compared to the previous version, this one is quite spacious and feels a lot airier. But out of the entire lot, the thing that caught significant attention was its steering wheel that is known to be the smallest ever fitted in an 86. Also, major changes can be seen on the instrumental cluster that now looks more performance and driver-centric. Moving sight right can be seen the new 4.2-inch information display screen that again is committed to serving the driver to the fullest. The dashboard further holds a 7-inch display audio unit that is followed by various controls taking care of the air-con system.

Drivetrain

Under its bonnet, Toyota 86 houses a 2.0-litre D-4S, 4-Cyliner, Boxer, Naturally Aspiration, 16-Valve mill. The said engine is a carry forward from the previous generation and churns out the maximum power of 200 PS at 7000 rpm along with peak torque of 205 Nm at 6400-6600 rpm. Available in both manual and automatic transmission option, the significant change in new 86 comes is in the form of Hill-Start assist system. Front and rear shock absorbers have been reworked making them 10 and 15 per cent firmer than before. Also, its rear stabilizer is now 1mm thicker; front counter part, however, remains unchanged.

Wide Color Options

Seven are the color options in which new 86 is available; however, it is the Crystal White Pearl color that’s the cheapest amongst the lot both in automatic and manual version. Other available options include – Lapis Blue Pearl, Pure Red, Ice Silver Metallic, Dark Gray Metallic, Crystal Black Silica and Orange Metallic.

We did our part and informed you about the revisions; now it’s your call to decide whether or not these additions justify 86 increased price tag.
