2018 Suzuki Swift: Features explained
The Swift has been one of the Suzuki's best selling products not only in the Philippines but all around the world. Suzuki hit the bull’s eye with its Swift. This hatchback has been around for many years now, and over its existence has won many hearts, awards, and appreciations. It became so popular that Suzuki launched its extended version, the Swift Dzire. Today, the Swift has come a long way from the day it saw the sunlight. So, let’s find out what are the key features of the 2018 Swift.
Exterior features
New and stylish headlamps
The 2018 Suzuki Swift has really stepped up a level when it comes to looks. Suzuki has incorporated some design elements that make this little car look more European. The new model features a set of new headlamps. While somehow Suzuki managed to keep the overall silhouette the same as before, the strip of LED daytime running lights is an attractive part.
Wide front grille
Suzuki has widened the front grille of the new Swift. It proudly owns the brand’s logo in the middle. And when you look at it from a distance it doesn’t feel out of place at all, perhaps, the design of the front bumper complements it. Painted in black, the grille has got a nice design that fits in perfectly in the overall front picture of the Swift.
Blacked out C-pillars
To further enhance the aesthetics of the 2018 Swift, Suzuki has gone ahead to include blacked out C-pillars. This isn’t the first time that we’re seeing this feature in a car. This addition gives a wrap-around look and depicts an impression of a floating roof design. The blacked out portion also houses the rear door handles.
New signature LED tail lights
Just like the headlamps, the tail lights of the new Swift has been changed. This LED setup is a lot better than the conventional halogen bulb arrangement. Also, the overall design and appearance of the tail lights when illuminated looks really nice. It is a signature design and should help you spot a Swift from a distance.
Interior features
All black color scheme
We’ve seen the all-black color scheme in the earlier models of the Swift, and we’re glad that Suzuki continued to use this theme in the new model as well. This theme really brings out a sportiness inside the cabin. It is so much better than the beige and other color combinations.
Flat-bottom steering wheel
The sportiness continues with a flat-bottom steering wheel. This is a really cool feature to have. It gives you a confidence while driving and, of course, looks and feel great. The steering wheel also features a few mounted controls.
Stylish meter cluster
Behind the steering wheel sits a new stylish meter cluster. It has got two big dials that have satin chrome around them. The digits are properly sized for easy legibility. Also, the white and red lighting really pops out the sportiness here as well. In an all-black interior, this lighting combination looks amazing. The meter cluster also features a 4.2-inch color LCD TFT as a Multi-information Display (MID) that sits in the middle of the two dials. It shows various information like G-forces, engine output and torque, and accelerator and brake use.
Touchscreen display
The 7-inch touchscreen display is responsible for taking care of your entertainment needs. It also doubles up as a navigation screen as and when required. It does come with Smartphone Integration functionality which allows you to connect your smartphone with the car via Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink.
Engine and transmission
Moving towards the Swift specifications. The Suzuki Swift engine available in our country is a 1.2-liter unit that has been tuned to churn out 82 hp at 6,000 rpm and pulls up 113 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. There is a 5-speed manual transmission available with the base model, while the high-end models come with CVT.
Safety features
It’s good to know that Suzuki has kept dual airbags (driver and front passenger) as mandatory in all the variants. However, we would have liked to see more airbags at least in high-end trims, but something is better than nothing. The 2018 Swift also comes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) along with EBD. You also get a brake assist function. Only the top-end model gets rear parking sensors and a reverse camera.
The 2018 Swift is a good-looking hatchback that offers the reliability and trust of Suzuki in an overall good package. Suzuki has done a good job of making it look like a modern car. There are 6 different Suzuki Swift color options - Metallic Mineral Gray, Metallic Speedy Blue, Metallic Star Silver, Pearl Ablaze Red, Pearl Pure White, and Pearl Super Black. The 2018 Swift price starts at Php 755,000 for the base model.
