2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible to be better than the previous

MANILA: We know about the new Bentley Continental GT from the Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 where the grand British automaker showcased the coupe form. And now, the company has brought the open-top version of the car,  known as the 2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible.

And since the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, we happen to know that the Continental GT has a more powerful engine under the hood and a sleeker design to show. The new convertible has followed the footsteps as it looks similar to the coupe sibling, barring just the one change, the roof.

However, the 2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible is heavier than its coupe counterpart (170 kilograms, to be precise), despite the removal of the hard metal roof. This has been done to get it to be stiffer due to its body type.

Now, instead of the hard top, there is a soft roof that can fold and unfold with just a button. Moreover, the British marque carmaker has even added the option of a tweed fabric that can be availed in seven different colors. The roof is operational (opens and retracts) in 19 seconds only, at a speed of 48 kmph.

The cabin is quite identical to the coupe sibling, and that is evident by the inclusion of the 18-speaker audio system from Naim and 12.3-inch display on the information cluster. However, the cabin is now more silent than the old generation by up to three decibels.

Mechanically, there is the same W12 6.0-litre engine that can thump out 635 PS of power and a humongous torque of 900 Nm. The transmission is handled by the same 8-speed dual-clutch transmission unit. The car can hit a speed of 97 kmph from a standstill in 3.7 seconds before getting to the top speed of 333 kmph.

The Philippine-spec 2018 Bentley Continental GT Convertible makes 590 hp and 720 Nm of torque from its 6.0-litre engine.
