2019 Honda Civic: First impression

2019 Honda Civic: First impression

There are only a few cars in the world which are equally popular in all the markets they sell. Honda Civic is one of them. The Civic has been around for years, and it has become one of the most popular cars Honda has ever made.

The current 2019 Honda Civic is the 10th generation model, and it has been designed to make sure it’s capable enough to carry on the heavy weight of the legacy on its shoulders.

2019 Honda Civic exterior

Honda Philippines launched the latest Civic in the country earlier this month. We’ve been waiting for the new Civic to hit our shores because it has already been launched in various markets and we were getting a bit impatient to see it in the flesh. Since now it’s here, and we’ve seen it, here’s our first impression of the brand new Honda Civic.

Exterior

The Civic has had several body types throughout its life. However, we think, you would agree with us here, that the 2019 model is the best-looking Civic that we’ve seen yet. Perhaps, there will be another generation of this car which would be aesthetically more pleasing. But until that happens, the current model is killing it.

2019 Honda Civic exterior features

The 2019 Honda Civic makes all the effort to let you know that it’s a modern car. It looks amazing thanks to the set of large LED headlamps. They really have a very sharp design and thus look very sporty. Acting as embellishments, the LED daytime running lights do a good job in enhancing the car’s appearance.

Honda continues to use its signature thick chrome grille at the front. The side profile of the Civic is even better. It’s low slung stance, and attractive alloy wheels make the car more desirable. We also like the coupe-like styling.

Moving to the rear of the car, the picture here is as mind-blowing as we that at the front. Perhaps, even a bit more because of the signature two-piece combination LED tail lights. Their sharp and dynamic design suits the character of the car very well. Overall, the new 2019 Civic is very sporty and young. And if you want to make things even sportier, then you can opt for the RS Turbo variant that comes with interesting features like a gloss black front grille, 17-inch RS design alloy wheels, trunk-mounted rear spoiler, etc.

Interior

The interior of the new Civic is very well thought and put together. Of course, luxury is everywhere with the use of high-quality materials. We weren’t surprised to see an all-black interior theme because it’s the perfect choice to keep things sporty yet elegant. However, there are touches of silver here and there to break the monotony.

Thanks to the long wheelbase of 2,700 mm, interior space wouldn’t be a problem. There is a good amount of room for everyone, and even with the coupe-like sloping roof design, Honda managed to provide generous headroom for the rear passengers.

Some of the interesting interior features of the 2019 Honda Civic are electrostatic steering wheel controls, cruise control, full-color TFT instrument cluster that shows a plethora of information, a large 7-inch touch screen display that supports navigation, smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth, and much more.

Safety features

Honda takes safety very seriously, and that’s why it has provided the new Civic with various safety nets like vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, multi-view reverse camera, ABS with EBD, etc.

Engine and performance

The 2019 Honda Civic specs reveal two engine options. First one is a 1.8-litre SOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 141 PS of max power at 6,500 revs and generates 174 Nm of highest torque at 4,300 revs. The second engine option is a smaller displacement 1.5-litre unit which has been blessed with a turbocharger. This means even though it is small,

it produces more power (173 PS at 5500 rpm) and torque (220 Nm at 1700 to 5500 rpm) than the 1.8-liter engine. This turbocharged engine is available only with the RS variant. As far as the transmission is concerned, both the engines come with Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

2019 Honda Civic RS

The new 2019 Honda Civic price starts at Php 1,115,000 for the base model and goes all the way up to Php 1,608,000 for the RS model. All that money would be well spent because Honda is providing a good package. Also, there is the Honda Modulo Custom Performance parts that are available as accessories.

If you want your car stand out from the rest of the lot, then you can check these out. The new Civic is available in 3 variants and 6 different colors - Blue Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Rallye Red, Cosmic Blue, Steel, and Platinum White Pearl.
