2019 Jeep Renegade officially unveiled

MANILA:  Amidst all the hype created by its teaser images, Jeep officially unveiled the 2019 Renegade SUV yesterday at the Torino Motor Show 2018, in Valentino Park, Italy. Although the American automaker has only released a few images of its latest SUV, they were enough to notice the subtle cosmetic changes done to the front and the rear.

The Renegade played a huge role in redefining the Jeep brand since it debuted in 2014 and was long due for a facelift. With a fair amount of aesthetic tweaks, the 2019 Jeep Renegade looks very refreshing.

At the front, you will notice the updated larger grille in Matte Grey finish. The vertical bars are thinner than before but still divide the grille into seven equal portions. The headlight looks more stylish, thanks to the LED projector headlamps, while the indicators are changed to white from orange. Jeep has also redesigned the bumper, the air vents and the repositioned LED fog lamps. The rear-view mirrors on the new SUV also gets an updated design with integrated turn signal lights. However, the underbody cladding and roof rails are similar to the ones on the current model.

Moving towards the rear, we could point out the revised tail lamps which now come with a smoked effect forming the signature “X” design. The “X” inside each lamp is bigger and more prominent with a depiction of a Jeep grille at the very centre of the light. The updated rear bumper features brake lights, a rear skid plate, and a trapezoidal exhaust system. Jeep has not released any pictures showing the inside of the 2019 Renegade but we do expect a bunch of upgrades there as well.

As far as the engine is concerned, Jeep has announced a range of new ones for the Renegade facelift which includes a three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine that pumps 120 bhp of max power and a 1.3-litre petrol engine that comes in a 150 hp variant and a 180 bhp variant. These specs are for the one bound to hit the European market and the company has not revealed specs for the U.S. version of the 2019 Renegade.

In the Philippines, Jeep offers the Renegade equipped with a four-cylinder, 1.4-litre petrol engine that produces max power of 168 hp and peak torque of 250 Nm. There’s no word on when or whether the  2019 Jeep Renegade will come to the south-east Asian market, but sales in the European market will commence early 2019.
