2019 Peugeot 5008 debuts in the Philippines

MANILA: Peugeot car lineup in the Philippines has finally got the 2019 Peugeot 5008 for Filipinos. The new-gen 5008 is no longer an MPV rather the company has packed it inside a crossover-styled body which was earlier previewed in November last year. The crossover gets an eye-catchy sporty design with myriad high-tech features inside. It also looks a lot more practical and up-to-date with present-day vehicles.

The dominating crossover features a large chrome-garnished grille flanked by stylish upswept LED headlamps with DRLs and an aggressive bumper at the front. At the rear, it gets signature ‘lion-claw’ tail lights, wide glass tailgate design and an integrated spoiler. Further enhancing the appeal are the big 18-inch alloys that are shod with 225/55 section tyres.

Pop up the doors and you’d be treated with an exclusive i-Cockpit design featuring a plethora of sophisticated elements. To start off, it gets a sleek flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel and a driver-focused dash with two dominating screens. One is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with the multi-info display while the other is an 8-inch infotainment system with touchscreen placed at the centre. The connectivity options supported by the infotainment system include Mirror Link, Bluetooth, WiFi and USB.

Other comfort and convenience features present on the 5008 include heated front seats with massage feature, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, rain-sensing wipers, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors and 8-way electronically-operated driver’s seat with memory function.

Despite its compact structure, it still comes with an ability to accommodate a max of seven passengers, like before, which is incredible. Dimension wise, the new 5008 measures 4,641mm in length, 1,844mm in width and 1,646 in height. The wheelbase is rated at 2,870mm and the ground clearance at 236mm.

Under the hood, the all-new Peugeot 5008 gets a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out a max power of 165PS at 6,000rpm and a healthy torque of 240Nm at 1,400 rpm mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The redesigned 5008 comes with an FWD system.

Considering the safety of the occupants, the company has blessed the new 5008 with avant-garde features like six airbags - two for the driver and the front passenger whereas two are equipped on the sides and two on the curtains. Additionally, it gets anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), brake assist (BA), front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability program (ESP), hill start assist, reverse camera with 360-degree monitor, cruise control, park assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
