2020 Lexus RX - First impression
The legacy of the mid-size premium crossover Lexus RX is expected to be carried over and taken care by the new fourth-generation model that has just been launched in the Philippines.
We are quite familiar with the popularity of the RX in the country. Just to give an idea, it has been dominating the SUV segment for many years now. And it is also the best-selling model in the entire fleet of Lexus cars in the Philippines. And with the 2020 model, it seems very likely that things are going to get only better for Lexus. Here's what we think of the 2020 Lexus RX.
Exterior
In terms of looks, the 2020 RX, in fact, like all Lexus cars, for that matter, continues to score the highest marks possible. You can't mistake it for any other car but Lexus thanks to the unique and distinctive front grille and LED DRL. For the 2020 model, Lexus has slightly revised the front bumper for extra sportiness. It also added a pair of horizontal LED fog lamps.
From the side, it would be a challenge to differentiate the 2020 model with the previous one. However, you should be able to tell that it is an RX just by looking at those gorgeous alloy wheels. We love the floating roof like design that Lexus has achieved by blackening out and somehow merging the C and D pillars. Lexus has also slightly tweaked the LED tail lamps and rear bumper.
The new Lexus RX has four variants - RX 350, RX 350 F Sport, RX 450H (hybrid), and RX 350L. The first three have the same dimensions - 4890 mm long, 1895 mm wide, and 1685 mm tall - however, the last one is a bit longer (5000 mm) and marginally taller (1700 mm). This is because it is the longer variant with third-row seating!
Interior
The interior of the new Lexus RX is one of those places which take you in awe. It's surprisingly spacious and loaded with luxury and comfort. The new model comes with a large 12.3-inch touch screen infotainment system that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, this is available only in the hybrid variant. The remaining ones get a smaller 8-in unit.
To make sure you don't forget the time you spent in an RX, Lexus has added a 15-speaker surround sound system by Mark Levinson. We don't really have to talk about the fit, finish, and quality of materials used in the cabin, do we? Yeah, that's what we thought.
Engine
Now coming to the heart of the matter, the 2020 Lexus RX specs. All the four variants are powered by the same 3.5-litre V6 that has been handling duties in the outgoing model. It produces a freaking 296 PS of max power at 6300 rpm and 370 Nm of peak torque at 4600 to 4700 rpm. The hybrid variant has slightly higher power for apparent reasons; 308 PS and 335 Nm.
Lexus also claims that it has improved the ride quality of the new model by incorporating new hollow & thicker front & rear stabilizers, revamped dampers & shocks, and anti-roll bars that are more rigid than before.
In a nutshell, the new RX is a better car than its predecessor. However, the improvements do come at a cost. The 2020 Lexus RX price starts at Php 4,278,000 for the base model, and the top-end hybrid variant will set you back by Php 5,078,000.
