A Bigger, Longer and Prettier 2017 Panamera is Finally Here
MANILA: Redeveloped from ground zero, the new generation Panamera has finally been released by the elite sports car manufacturer, Porsche in Berlin yesterday. Blended nicely to impart two distinctive characteristics, luxury, and performance, the new car fits perfectly in the garage of an auto enthusiast. The car has undergone a complete makeover, starting from its aesthetics to its tech front or from its performance quotient to fuel economy figures, everything has seen a change that too for good, which is all worthy to adorn a Porsche badge.
Designed to entice the world with its crafty looks, the second-gen Panamera model is majorly made up of aluminum. On looking at the car, it seems that the designers were resolute in making it similar to the signature Porsche car, 911. Without any questions, the brand’s designers have done a considerable job in achieving their target. The headlights are similar to that of 911 while the interconnected design of tail lamps is just breathtaking. The roofline has gone a bit lower, which finally sweeps back to the rear end forming a gripping arc.
The new Panamera is out in real flesh after being earlier teased by videos and images and this is what Head of Style Porsche AG, Michael Mauer had to say, “You will immediately recognize the coupé-like roof line, but it is much ‘faster’ and even more dynamic and includes a new side window look that emphasizes the coupe-like side view even more. The new Panamera can be identified at first glance. Its strengths have been reinforced, its distinctive character preserved.”
Inside, it has an exclusive cockpit that’s next to fantasy. The new Porsche Communication Management system offers a wide range of intelligent features that are easy to do for the driver on the go. The interface integrated is more advanced than ever while the LED screens inside give you a smartphone-like feel. The tachometer comprises of two seven-inch touchscreens while there is a big 12.3-inch tablet-like screen right at the eye level of the driver. There is a mention of Apple CarPlay inclusion while no word is there on Android Auto part.
On the mechanical front, it comes with two engine options namely 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo in the Panamera 4S and 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo in the Panamera Turbo. The former is capable of churning out a max power of 440 hp and a peak torque of 549 Nm while the latter is good enough for 550 hp and 769 Nm of peak torque. The smaller engine can hit the 60 mph mark from zero in just 4.4 seconds while the larger engine can hit the same mark in just 3.6 seconds. With Sports Chrono package these figures come down to 4.2 and 3.4 seconds respectively. Both the engines are available with AWD system and mingled to an 8-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox. The Panamera 4S can cross the bar by touching the top speed of 180 mph while the turbo variant of the same can reach 190 mph, which is certainly an interesting number for an auto enthusiast.
Adding to its fleet, Porsche will soon be bringing in the new 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman, which was revealed at the 2016 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition. Powered by a turbocharged unit, it is expected to enter the production phase anytime soon according to the reports. It looks like the brand has sorted its future plans and is ready to introduce another 2-door sports car in the near future.
