All you need to know about 2019 Ford Ranger

Along with the launch of the all-new Ford Ranger Raptor, the 2019 Ford Ranger was also launched. The Ford Ranger is one of the highest selling pick up trucks in the Philippines. The launch of the updated Ford Ranger then is a shot in the arm for Ford Philippines. The prices have increased slightly but overall it brings in a value for money proposition. Design

Not much has been changed here since the Ford Ranger even in its pre-facelift version looks very contemporary. However, there are a few changes to keep it up to date. As is the norm, there is a new bumper in the front and since this is a pickup, precious little has been done at the rear. The grille too carries a new design. If you choose the range-topping Ranger, the Wildtrak, then there are also new HID projector headlights awaiting you. These also get LED DRLs. Ford has also slightly changed the ORVM design. We are being told it is for the aerodynamic purpose. The alloy wheel design too has been changed now. The Wildtrak trims get more body kit to distinguish them from the mundane Rangers. One can order the 2019 Ford Ranger in Cool White, Absolute Black, Blue Reflex, Aluminum Metallic, Diffused Silver, Meteor Grey, Sunset Red, and Saber colours. Bookings have already started across all Ford dealerships in the Philippines.

Interior

 

There have been nips and tucks inside the cabin too. After all, this is where the owner and his family will spend the maximum time, eh? Changes to the Ford Ranger 2019’s cabin include a new upholstery as well as a bigger touchscreen infotainment system. This one is updated with the Sync3 music system as well. The touchscreen response is fluid too.

Apart from all this, the 2019 Ford Ranger specs also point towards more equipment. This includes keyless entry, door request sensors, push-button start, ambient lighting and an easy lift tailgate.

Safety

Along with the existing airbags, ABS with EBD, trailer assist, and other safety aids, there is also now adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency brakes, and active parking assist. The latter will allow the system to parallel park the pick up by spotting an appropriate parking place.

Engine and transmission

If you have checked the Ranger Raptor specs, then you will have noticed that it is available in a single engine option. Along with the pre-facelift model engine options, the Raptor engine is also available with the Ranger now. The 2019 Ford Ranger boasts a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel motor that is good for 215 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. Along with this engine, there is also a new 10-speed automatic transmission. There are also paddle shifters offered with this transmission.

This same engine is also available with a single turbo option. The power drops to 180 PS and the torque comes down to 420 Nm. The transmission is the 10-speed auto again. Ford has ditched the 3.2-litre mill from the Everest. The 2.2-litre diesel mill for the entry-level Rangers is still available and it continues to make 160 PS of power and torque of 385 Nm. It can be optioned either with a 6-speed manual or an automatic. Power is fed to the rear wheels or all four wheels depending on the variant selected.

Competition check

The updated Ford Ranger will go up against the Chevrolet Colorado, Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max as well as the Mitsubishi Triton. Given the extra equipment, it now makes more sense to go for the trustworthy Ford Ranger pickup trucks than its peers which haven’t been updated as significantly as this one.
