Around 1.2 million Ford Explorer SUVs recalled for a rear suspension issue

MANILA: Ford and recall are two words which seem to be getting along very well of late. It is not as if the American automaker had fewer problems with recalls in the recent past and here is the latest one. Made during the time period of 2011 to 2017, around 1.2 million units of the Ford Explorer have been recalled due to faulty rear suspension toe links.

The automaker has said that these toe links bear a risk of sudden fracture. Moreover, the risk is more on the units of Ford Explorer that have undergone regular & vigorous suspension travel.

The fracture in the suspension could result in a crash and also in poor handling of the SUV. While there haven’t been any informed injuries or accidents due to the faulty suspension, Ford has, however, cited that there has been an incident when the suspension broke and a customer hit a curb.

The reference number for the recall is 19S17 and Ford will remove both left and right rear suspension toe links and install new forged units. Furthermore, the automaker will also align the rear suspension. The customers aren’t supposed to pay anything to Ford for the replacement.

The 1.2 million units of the Ford Explorer carrying the faulty rear suspension were built between 17 May 2010 and 25 January 2017 at the Chicago Assembly Plan in the United States of America. As a matter of fact, the Explorer SUVs sold in the Philippines also come from the USA.
