Chevrolet Trailblazer Phoenix: First impression

The first day of the 2019 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) was a huge success. As the event, which was held at the World Trade Center in Metro Manila saw a large footfall thanks to its popularity and also to the growing number of companies joining the show with each passing year.

We witnessed a lot of new cars being showcased and launched on day 1. One of them was the latest 2019 Chevrolet Trailblazer Phoenix. So let’s just move right into it and find out what this new SUV is all about in our first impression.

The Trailblazer always looked good, but due to the fierce competition in its segment, it gets overshadowed by its rivals like Toyota Fortuner. With the latest model, Chevrolet has tried to improve the aesthetics a bit by adding some new features in the hope that they will get the Trailblazer the attention it deserves.

Black color tends to make things appear sportier and serious. Following that principle, Chevrolet has given the new Trailblazer Phoenix numerous dark/black elements. To begin with, all the pillars have been painted black. Combine them with the black wheel arches and the SUV does look a bit more muscular.

Then we have the blacked out rear spoiler that goes pretty well with the large black windscreen. Also, the tail lights are joined together by a black embellishment with ‘Trailblazer’ embossed on it. Chevrolet has taken this ‘dark theme’ so severely that even made its logo, both at the front and rear of the vehicle, black. Wouldn’t you call that a bit too much?

There is one more aesthetic change that you’d find in the new Chevrolet Trailblazer Phoenix and probably the one which would be liked by many. It’s the large Trailblazer decal pasted at the front of the SUV. Do let us know what do you have to say about that.

So that’s the new Chevrolet Trailblazer Phoenix for you guys. There’s nothing really new here, but we’re glad Chevrolet did something. Anyway, the new Trailblazer Phoenix specs remain mostly the same as before.

This mid-size SUV is powered by a 2.8-litre Duramax turbodiesel engine which has been tuned in a state to churn out a max power of 200 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm. As far as the transmission is concerned, it’s a 6-speed automatic unit which sends the power to the rear wheels.

The interior of the Trailblazer offers a considerable amount of space for everyone. And it’s quite comfortable as well. Chevrolet has nicely utilised all the space here to provide a well put together cabin. Some of the exciting features here include a large 7-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system that lets you connect your smartphone with it via either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This is something that would be appreciated by many buyers.

Chevrolet Trailblazer is unique in its own way. We mean, how many SUVs are there which have got a split front grille? This is one of the signature features of the Trailblazer which would allow you to identify it easily.

And now, with the large Trailblazer decal at the front, it’d be hard to mistake this giant for some other SUV. Also, we like how Chevrolet has integrated the LED daytime running lights inside the headlamp assembly. It somehow goes really well with the look of the vehicle.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer Phoenix price has been decided to be Php 1,780,888. And for your information, the LT automatic variant of the Trailblazer costs Php 1,708,888.

So, all the extra pesos that you’d be paying to get home yourself an all-new Trailblazer Phoenix will pay just for the countable black elements. Is it fair or justifiable to charge Php 72,000 more only for minor aesthetic changes? Do let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
