Fisker aims at challenging Tesla with an electric SUV
MANILA: Fisker, the American electric automobile manufacturer has been quite silent since the introduction of its EMotion concept, an EV that was said to come out in 2019. While that may or may not happen, the automaker has made another big, or shall we say huge announcement. News coming all the way from Los Angeles, California is that the brand will launch an all-electric SUV by 2021 with a price tag of under $ 40,000. The announcement comes following the unveiling of Tesla Model Y, indicating that the Fisker SUV will certainly lock horns with the American counterpart.
Fisker not only announced a 2021 arrival of its SUV but also teased its front end. Going by the image, the SUV packs in an appearance never seen before on any of the Fisker cars or concepts.
There is a large air intake on the front bumper, probably for cooling purpose. The SUV does not get any grille and rather features a glass that covers the high mounted radar. Customer will also have an option to go for 22-inch wheels.
Talking about the mechanicals of the electric SUV, while we do not have any solid information, Henrik Fisker, the Chairman and CEO of Fisker, Inc. did reveal that the SUV will get an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and have a range of around 483 km on a single charge.
The Fisker SUV will also boast an all-wheel drive thanks to the independent electric motors for both front and rear axels. With only one image released by Fisker and that too only of the front fascia of the SUV, the whole of the interior remains an unknown territory.
Henrik Fisker also cited that the electric SUV will be priced under $ 40,000 (roughly Php 2,115,000). If Fisker manages to price its SUV somewhere near that amount, it may eventually give some kind of competition to the recently unveiled Tesla Model Y. While the news certainly excites one and all,
note the Tesla Model Y is already a production car and the Fisker SUV is still a concept. Hence, things may change over time and we should come to any conclusion only once the Fisker SUV is unveiled in its production form. Fisker is also working on two more EVs which will be stepping on the podium soon in the near future.
