Ford Mustang reigns World’s Best-selling Sportscar title for 2018

MANILA: Ford has celebrated and marked the 55th anniversary of its sports car, the Mustang on National Mustang Day at New York Auto Show, which commenced on 17th April. The first Ford Mustang was unveiled to the world on April 17, 1964. And it continues to be the best spelling sports coupe car for the last four years in a row.

Ford sold 113,066 Mustang all over the world in 2018 according to data received from IHS Markit. Also in 2018, this sports coupe was available in 146 countries.

Jim Farley, the President of Global Markets at Ford said that Ford broke the ‘mold’ when they launched Mustang. He further made a statement saying, “Nothing says freedom, the wind in your hair and the joy of driving like Mustang; it’s an icon. The roar of its V-8 on a spring day, there’s nothing better. No wonder it’s the most popular sports coupe in the world.”

Ford Mustang also continues to gain new followers and still is used in advertisements and movies (who can forget the iconic Ford Mustang convertible in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger”).
Ford has sold more than 500,000 Mustang following the launch of the sixth generational model in 2015.

The company unveiled Mustang in the Philippines in a total of four variants with changes in exterior and a refreshed interior. The four-wheeler gets a new design for its front DRL, which matches the shape of its taillights. The interior of the coupe receives a refurbished cabin along with new materials for its variants.

There are a number of alterations for the engine like bigger valves, new cylinder head, camshafts, forged con rods, and stiffer valve rings. The power output has received a considerable boost, giving a maximum power output of 310 hp and peak torque of 434 Nm.
