Ford PH fetes motoring media at 19th Henry Ford Awards

MANILA: Eleven journalists and two media outlets were honored last week as Ford Philippines held the 19^thHenry Ford Awards (HFA) ceremony at One Canvass Events place along Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City.

The HFA is Ford’s annual program that recognizes excellence in automotive journalism from both online and print platforms. These nominated stories and articles do not have to be Ford exclusives or technical in nature as there are categories for lifestyle, safety, technology, and even alternative energy (green) pieces.

There are awards as well that acknowledge the storytelling power of photos and videos and, in a nod to the influence and reach of the internet, the first-ever Best Automotive Website award was created to match the 19-year old Best Broadsheet Motoring Section category.

This is proof of how forward-thinking Ford Philippines and the HFA committee has been through the years as they consistently innovate to cope with how media is delivered and how the audience consumes its news.

Judging was done in two phases with two different sets of judges. The first, which evaluated the entries on overall composition, style, and substance, was done by Dr. Maria Margarita Alvina-Acosta (Dean, Department of Communication, Miriam College), Dr. Arminda Vallejo-Santiago (Dean, College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines–Diliman), Dr. Severino R. Sarmenta, Jr. (Lecturer, Ateneo De Manila University) and Dr. Cheryll Ruth Soriano (Associate Professor and Research Fellow, De La Salle University–Manila).

The second phase looked at resonance, relevance, and overall impact of the entry to the reading audience. The judges included Charmaine Canillas (General Manager, Petron Foundation), Ma. Rosario Logarta-Lagamon (Director for Corporate Communications, Cebu Pacific), and Jeffrey Ochoa Tarayao (President, One Meralco Foundation). Executives from Ford Group Philippines led by its managing director, PK Umashankar, also participated in the deliberation process.

Categories for photos, videos, design and layout, and digital publishing were judged by Jose Lorenzo Diokno (Filmmaker), Erwin Oliva (Content Management Head for Digital Marketing, Metrobank), Dino Ocampo (Executive Creative Director, Ogilvy Philippines), and Richard Perez (Commercial Photographer).
