Honda introduces Sound Sitter, a new way to calm crying babies down
MANILA: Honda has come up with an unusual innovation. Called the ‘Honda Sound Sitter’, this product generates a sweet engine sound that calms crying babies down. The brand also demonstrated this unique product by offering parents a chance to experience the effect at Honda Welcome Plaza in Aoyama, Japan.
Babies generally cry when they are moved to a new location because of the unfamiliar environment. As a company that supports mobility, Honda wanted to address this and hence, came up with this solution.
According to the carmaker, the solution came out through research done under the guidance of the president of Sound Healing Association, Prof. Keiichiro Kira. The research discovered the fact that the sound produced by Honda’s car engine has a calming effect similar to the sound inside a mother’s womb. The sound heard inside the womb contains low frequencies such as the sound of the mother’s heart and the sound of blood flow. The Honda car also produces frequencies of 250Hz or less than that.
Experiments were done to see the reaction of the babies (6 to 18 months) when they listen to the engine sound, and as a result, the babies stopped crying after about 2 minutes of listening to the music. The system includes speakers inside a stuffed plush red colored toy car which works with the help of a mobile phone application. The link of the music is available on its official website.
