Honda PH issues another recall for airbag inflator replacement

MANILA: Following the Takata airbag recall that involved 19,624 cars, Honda Cars Philippines has once again found itself in the waters full of troubles. This time around, the Japanese automaker has issued a recall notice calling back 14,074 units once again for the same Takata airbag problem that led to the previous recall. The latest recall includes various Honda cars like the Civic, City, CR-V, Jazz, and Accord. The vehicles recalled were produced from 2001-2009. Honda Cars Philippines will replace the front passenger airbag inflator on the recalled models. The recalled units with their manufacturing year are:

• 2001-2005 Honda Civic: 1,651 units
• 2006-2009 Honda Civic: 225 units
• 2003 Honda Accord: 290 units
• 2003-2008 Honda City: 1,652 units
• 2009 Honda City: 38 units
• 2003-2006 Honda CR-V: 9,551 units
• 2007-2009 Honda CR-V: 145 units
• 2002-2008 Honda Jazz: 500 units
• 2009 Honda Jazz: 22 units
• 2009 Honda City: 38 units

Both the previous and the current recalls are the result of a faulty inflator due to manufacturing blemishes. There is a possibility of the inflator breaking during the deployment of the airbag. The incident can cause severe injuries to the patient and, hence, Honda is taking the preventive measure to avoid the scenario. Following the issue with Takata airbags, Honda is now sourcing airbags from a different manufacturer.

The Philippines hasn't witnessed an accident where the Takata airbags have failed or harmed the occupants instead of saving them. Still, all the 42 Honda Cars Philippines dealerships in the country will be replacing the front passenger airbag inflator on the recalled models very soon. Besides the airbag issue, the Japanese automaker has been doing very in the automobile market of late. Not only Honda recently achieved the milestone of producing 2.7 million vehicles in H1 2019, but the automaker has also been busy in releasing new models like the 2019 BR-V and China-exclusive cars like the Breeze.
