Hyundai Kona Electric SUV officially revealed ahead of GIMS 2018

MANILA: Hyundai has finally unveiled its second all-electric vehicle, Kona hardly a week before its global debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The South Korean automaker will be offering two electric powertrains for the Kona EV, with a short-range and long-range versions.

The carmaker claims that the shorter range Kona EV can travel up to 186 miles while the more extended range version will cover a distance of 292 miles on a single charge. There's no news regarding the pricing of the vehicle, but Hyundai has revealed much of Kona EV's designing and performance specification.

The fully-electric subcompact SUV is a bit longer (15mm) and taller (20mm), compared to the standard Kona. The Kona EV will come with Hyundai’s semi-autonomous driving, and safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision assist and blind spot warning. Both versions of the Kona EV will be compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Qi wireless charging, a 7-inch infotainment display along with a heads-up display.

The front profile of the Kona EV is as powerful as the standard Kona, featuring enhanced aerodynamics. Other features include composite headlights, LED DRL, and dual-tone roof with seven exterior colour options. It also gets side sills that adds to the elegant appeal to the car.

Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, who is the Vice President of the Marketing and Product department at Hyundai Motor Europe stated that Hyundai already leads the future mobility solutions and with the all-electric Kona, we are further pushing the ambitious eco car strategy at the level-best. He also added that the Kona EV is designed by combining electric-mobility with compact SUV styling hues, making it a “no-compromise” car.

Hyundai is gearing up to launch its tech flagship SUV around this year end in the European and South Korean market. We too are keeping our figures crossed to see this one in the Philippines.
