Kia EV4 gains highest accolade from 2026 Red Dot Design Award

MANILA: The Kia EV4 was awarded the “Best of the Best” accolade by the Red Dot Design Award. Moreover, the Kia PV5 and the Hyundai Motor Group’s mobile robot platform MobED were also given the distinction of “Winner” by the awards body. 

Notably, the Kia EV4 was praised by Red Dot Design Awards for its bold, innovative approach to sedan design. The Kia model was developed under the “Opposites United” philosophy, which gave the nameplate a versatile hatchback variant and a fastback version said to “challenge convention.”

Meanwhile, the Kia PV5 was noted for its modular design approach. Specifically, it utulizes a shared front section that can be paired with a multitude of rear modules suited for various use cases. 

Per Kia, the PV5’s rear module options include passenger, cargo, WAV (wheelchair-accessible vehicle), and crew versions. With that said, the PV5 was designed to offer ample interior space, along with practicality and usability. This is the key strength of the PV5, which, interestingly enough, doesn’t clash with its distinct futuristic boxy appearance.

With the Kia EV4 now being hailed as a “Best of the Best” vehicle by Red Dot Design Award for 2026, the South Korean car brand has expanded its lineup of Red Dot Award “Best of the Best” winners. These include nameplates such as:

• Kia EV6 (2022)
• Kia EV9 (2024)
• Kia EV3 (2025)

“It is an honor for Kia to once again be recognized by the Red Dot Design Award, especially with the EV4 achieving the highest distinction,” Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Karim Habib said. 

“These awards reflect the impact of the ‘Opposites United’ philosophy in shaping mobility solutions that are both relevant and meaningful, delivering intuitive and seamless experiences for our users. From the EV4’s bold reinterpretation of the sedan to the PV5’s flexible, user-centered approach to PBV design, both vehicles demonstrate Kia’s commitment to bringing together emotional appeal with everyday practicality,” Habib added. 

Apart from its two cars under Kia, the Hyundai Motor Group’s MobED (mobile eccentric droid) also received a “Winner” accolade from Red Dot Design Award. The aforementioned highlights the robotic platform’s “balance of innovative engineering and functional design.”

It likewise demonstrates how mobility solutions aren’t just for cars, but also for functional technology. The MobED, after all, utilizes the unique Eccentric Wheel mechanism and “Drive and Lift” technology, enabling it to perform side-to-side movement on rough terrain, whilst maintaining stability.
