M good: BMW refining performance of next M3 Saloon and M4 Coupe on the track
MANILA: BMW M GmbH is setting the stage for the generation modification of its classic sports cars. With driving dynamics tests done under racetrack conditions, the series development process for the new BMW M4 Coupe and the new BMW M3 Saloon is currently going through a significant phase.
Since the performance features of BMW M models persuade the most diverse racetrack profiles, test engineers have always extended the program to include the existing test drives with concealed prototypes of the new BMW M4 Coupé and the new BMW M3 Saloon at the Sachsenring facility in Germany.
A few months before their global debut in mid-September 2020, the versatile capacity of the new BMW M4 Coupé and the new BMW M3 Saloon is already evident.
Completely controllable handling, excellent dynamics, and inspiring swiftness despite thrilling sporting situations define their driving behavior. The balance between greater efficiency and unregulated daily suitability, which is typical for an M model, has reached a new level.
Similar to all current high-performance automobiles from the BMW M GmbH, the new BMW M4 Coupe and the new BMW M3 Saloon are provided in two performance levels.
Aside from a 480hp variant with a six-speed manual shift, there is also the option of a Competition model with 510hp and an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic.
With substantial improvement in performance over the preceding models and the M-specific suspension setup, the newly designed straight six-cylinder engines set standards once again for the high-performance saloon segment and coupes of the most exceptional midrange class.
Comprehensive advancements in braking, dampers, springs, wheel suspension, and drive technology need meticulous testing on public roads at the BMW Group testing facilities in Southern France, Sweden, and on a few varied racetracks.
Compared to previous models, the straight six-cylinder engines now bring a maximum torque of up to 650Nm and a maximum 49 to 60hp bump (Competition models).
Furthermore, due to the M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving theme, the power plant highlights performance attributes, which originate from motor racing.
The power unit succeeds through extremely intuitive response in any speed range and is also introduced in the BMW M4 GT3, which will become the latest top-of-the-line model from the BMW M GmbH in the customer sports segment for the 2022 season.
With the carefully controlled test program, the testing and development engineers at BMW M GmbH are presently ensuring that the M-specific suspension components are aligned to the performance requirements of the engine. This is to ensure that the new BMW M3 Saloon and the new BMW M4 Coupé are placed in the first row of the initial grid in their vehicle segment.
The 3,670-meter portion of the traditional Sachsenring, established as the long-standing venue of the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) racing series, also provides the ideal conditions for this pre-requisite.
