Macoy Dubs adds Toyota GR Yaris to sporty car stable

MANILA: We’ve seen more than a handful of celebrities show off their brand-new cars before, and more often than not, they go for big and cushy rides like the Toyota Alphard, HiAce, or the Land Cruiser LC300. 

Internet personality Mark Averilla, better known as “Macoy Dubs,” however, breaks the mold once again with his latest acquisition - a white-colored example of the Toyota GR Yaris. 

But while the GR Yaris is tiny, it is not a mere hatchback. That’s because it is actually a rally-homologation special developed by Toyota to compete in the World Rally Championships. 

On that note, Averilla's new Toyota GR Yaris is in keeping with his penchant for agile rides. As far as we know, the internet personality’s growing stable of sporty cars now includes the next-generation Honda Prelude, a restored, pristine example of the fourth-generation (BB1) Prelude, the Honda Civic Type R FL5, and the Lexus IS 300h. 

With that said, Averilla clearly has a love for driving, and there are a few ways of showing this by taking ownership of a manual-transmission, all-wheel-drive, rally-bred beast like the GR Yaris.

Toyota GR Yaris in PH

For those curious, the Philippine-spec Toyota GR Yaris starts at P3.441 million for the manual variant and P3.57 million for the automatic version. 

Propelling the Toyota GR Yaris is the 1.6-liter G16E-GTS three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which produces up to 276 horsepower and 390 Newton-meters of torque. This mill goes together with an all-wheel drive system (GR-Four), ventilated disc brakes for all four wheels, and a limited-slip differential. 

While it sounds hardcore, the GR Yaris still comes with the following modern creature comforts:

• 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
• Seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Smart entry
• Rain-sensing wipers
• Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS)
