Mazda and AAP decide to extend their partnership
MANILA: A partnership that aims at discovering, training, and developing young drivers in the field of motorsports has been renewed by Bermaz Auto Philippines and Automobile Association Philippines. If you’re one of those unacquainted ones, Bermaz Auto Philippines is the official Mazda vehicles and parts distributor in the Philippines, while Automobile Association Philippines is the country’s oldest and biggest auto club.
Mazda Philippines has handed over a fleet of six brand new Mazda2 S sedans to the group. The Mazda2 S gets its power from a 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G gasoline engine mated to a Skyactiv 6-speed manual transmission which delivers power to the wheels. Students and participants will be using these cars to test and hone their driving skills. Also, note that these six Mazda2 S sedans are stock cars without any modifications.
Steven Tan, the president and CEO of BAP said, “Mazda Philippines is a strong advocate of driver development and has been a long-time supporter of the AAP’s program to uplift the driving skills of future generations.
This is our favourite program because we believe motorsports is a really good place to start educating young drivers. We feel privileged to be associated with the AAP to educate the next generation of drivers in the motorsport arena”.
Tan went on to cite that MSDP has been using the Mazda2 as its primary school car since 2015 for teaching its students the fundamentals of a higher form of driving. He also praised the sedan as a nimble and responsive package which has contributed to honing the on-road driving skills of young drivers and future racers. “Through our common focus in motorsports, AAP and Mazda aim to contribute toward a society where drivers put safety and road discipline above all else”, added Tan.
“The MSDP combines driving skills with road safety,” said Mandy Eduque, Sr., chair of the AAP Motorsports Committee. “We believe motorsports competitors are the safest drivers on the road. Without Mazda’s support, we would not be as successful as we’ve been. With the start of the MSDP for 2019, we are hopeful the success will continue and expand further,” he appended. If we talk a little about the AAP-Motorsports Development Program,
it is a training program designed for young drivers of ages 15 to 19 who want to enter the field of motorsports and become successful race car drivers. Furthermore, the program hones their skills, talents, and most importantly, equips these drives with the discipline that motorsports demand.
Vip Isada, who is a ten-time National Rally Champion along with his team of champion race drivers will be training the students in the AAP-Motorsport Development Program. The program will also subsidise the participation of young drivers. Students can enrol for the program online and only per session slots are available.
There are a total of nine modules that the program consists of and each module then comprises of 3 to 4 hours of lectures and 4 to 5 hours of practical driving exercises. The program will be organised throughout the year with workshops that will be held in Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.
