Mazda previews special-edition models to celebrate centennial
MANILA: Mazda just revealed the look of special-edition models to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary. These will hit dealerships in very limited numbers, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Referred to plainly as the “100thAnniversary Special Edition” series, each of Mazda’s key models in the passenger vehicle segment — Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda CX-3, Mazda CX-30, Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-8, Mazda6, plus RF and Convertible MX-5 — will have one.
The “100thAnniversary Special Edition” will only come with one color, Snowflake White Pearlescent, while the cabin will sport a burgundy interior carpet and burgundy leather seats. It takes its colors after the brand’s very first automobile, a Mazda R360 that came with a white body/red roof two-tone design.
As a special and extremely limited edition series, it will also have several bespoke feature including the 100thAnniversary badge on the burgundy floormats, keyfob, and embossed on the headrests. The badge will also be visible on the wheel center and side of the unit. The MX-5 convertible will have a Dark Cherry fabric roof.
This special 100th Anniversary badge is actually an overlay of the current Mazda badge over the original round logo of the Toyo Kogyo company, which was founded by Jujiro Matsuda. Now, that company is known as Mazda.
