Mazda unveils the power figures of all-new Skyactiv-X engine
MANILA: It has been quite some time now since the automobile universe has been waiting for the Skyactiv-X engine by Mazda. And just before the official launch of the mill, the Japanese automaker has pulled the covers off the power and fuel consumption figures of the newest heart for its vehicles.
The revealed specifications reveal that the brand new Skyactiv-X engine is capable of producing 180 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 224 Nm at just 3,000 rpm. Moreover, the new motor also features the Spark Plug Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI).
The technology equips the new mill with both spark ignition of a petrol engine and compression ignition of a diesel. As a result, the Skyactiv-X by Mazda comes with the benefits of both the worlds, i.e., a better response like a diesel engine and free-spirited nature of petrol mill.
Dwelling more into the specifications, a compression ratio of 16.3:1 is carried by the 2.0-litre engine that uses 95 RON octane fuel. Combined mileage for highway and city is more than decent at 18.51 kmpl, while the new Skyactiv-X engine emits just 96 gm of CO2 for every kilometre that it runs.
If you need an even more fuel efficient engine, then there is also the Mazda M Hybrid technology. The powertrain in the hybrid guise comes carrying a 24 V mild hybrid system. This hybrid system not only reduces the CO2 emissions and increases fuel efficiency but also recovers the lost electrical energy while the vehicle is decelerating.
Hence, the electric motor plays a dual role here, both of an assistant to the engine along with a generator for the batteries. By the way, did you check out the stunning shots of the 2019 Mazda 3 taken by Rankin, one of the more renowned photographers in today’s world? Find out here.
