Meet the 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe

MANILA: BMW pulled the covers off its 2020 M8 recently, and now, the German automaker has unveiled the 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, a four-door version of the 8 Series Coupe. The newest sedan by BMW has replaced the 6 Series Gran Coupe and is the newest addition to the 8 Series range by the automobile manufacturers from Munich, Germany.

In order to fit four doors on the coupe, BMW has increased the length of the sedan by 231 mm, which has resulted in a 201 mm longer wheelbase. However, even after the elongated dimensions, the sedan still maintains its sporty & attractive character thanks to the long hood and short deck design. BMW has is also offering an M Sport Package for the 2020 8 Series Gran Coupe. The package includes unique side skirts & rear apron, 19- or 20-inch lightweight M alloy wheels, larger air intakes, M Sport brakes, M leather steering wheel, and illuminated door sill plates along with a Chrome Line exterior pack and an M Carbon exterior package.

On the inside, the 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is pretty similar to its two-door sibling with the same three-spoke leather steering wheel, leather upholstery, iDrive infotainment system, heads-up display, and other amenities. Other convenience and comfort features on the sedan include Bowers & Wilkins sound system, four-zone automatic climate control, and 40:20:40 rear split folding seats.

On the mechanical front, the four-door coupe gets three engine options. To start off with, we have the 3.0-litre Twin Power Turbo inline-six that powers the 840i and 840i xDrive. This mill generates 340 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 500 Nm. A 0 to 100 kmph run on the rear-wheel-drive and the all-wheel-drive takes 5.2 seconds and 4.9 seconds, respectively. Next up is the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel on the 840i xDrive churning out 320 PS at 4,400 rpm and 680 Nm from 1,750 to 2,250 rpm.

The most powerful mill is the 4.4-litre Twin Power Turbo V8 found on the 850i xDrive. It makes 530 PS from 5,500 to 6000 rpm and 750 Nm from 1800 to 4600 rpm. A 0 to 100 kmph run on with particular powertrain takes just 3.9 seconds. All the three powertrains come with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph. The power from the mills is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission in case of all three powertrains. BMW is said to begin delivering the 2020 8 Series Gran Coupe by the end of 2019.
