Mercedes adds turbo-diesel, AWD and AMG variants to GLC lineup

MANILA: Mercedes-Benz just made the Philippines luxury crossover market even more interesting with the inclusion of three new GLC variants. These new models are the coupe, AWD turbocharged diesel and the sporty AMG.

The current Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 is just an entry-level variant and the GLC 220d AMG 4Matic is placed above it. It gets a 2.1-litre diesel engine which is capable of making a maximum power of 170 PS besides the whopping 400 Nm of torque. Plus, it also gets the 4Matic all-wheel drive mechanism.

Moreover, this new GLC 200d also has the additional AMG package adding to the sportiness. This package brings large AMG-spec wheels and some sporty add-ons to the front and rear profile. Apart from just the aesthetic updates, the AMG addition also packs in cross-drilled brakes for the front wheels and a revised suspension setup that is 20 mm lower than the standard GLC 200.

The new GLC Coupe is designed to make the lineup more interesting. It is named the GLC 250 Coupe and gets attractive designing finishes on the rear end with taillights taken from the C-Class. The sloping roofline is also a unique addition to this coupe. Mechanically, it has a more powerful 2.0-litre petrol engine which produces 211 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque.

Getting to the biggest GLC AMG, it gets unique grille additions and AMG wheels that set it apart from the rest of the GLCs. Named as the GLC 43 AMG, this variant has a powerful bi-turbo, a 3.0-litre V6 engine which thumps out 367 PS of power and 520 Nm of torque. With such power, it can hit the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in just 4.9 seconds before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 250 kmph.

While the Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 is priced at Php 3,990,000, the newer 220d 4Matic AMG and 250 Coupe get a price tag of PHP 4,590,000 and Php 5,090,000 respectively. The top-of-the-line GLC 43 4Matic AMG is priced at Php 6,890,000.
