MG PH bucks industry downturn, grows in H1
MANILA: Despite the difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown it necessitated, The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI) reported first-half growth for the British heritage brand MG which it operates.
MG Philippines sold 1,801 vehicles from January to June 2020, compared to 1,784 units in the same period last year.
In a release, the company said “the lion’s share belongs to the stylish, versatile and attainable MG ZS Crossover SUV — comprising 56% of MG Philippines’ total unit sales in H1 2020. But with growing market requirements expected in the second half... MG Philippines’ other offerings—including the spacious and feature-loaded MG 5 sedan, versatile MG RX5 SUV, and sporty MG 6 Fastback Sedan—are sure to address various customer needs.”
The company sees its role to “rekindle economic activity by easing the transportation requirements of the public.”
Averred MG Philippines President and CEO Atty. Alberto Arcilla, “We appreciate the strong reception and trust that the Philippine automotive market has shown to the MG brand. Our principals at SAIC Motor International (SMIL) and we at The Covenant Car Company, Inc. focused our efforts on a precise product portfolio and positioned our offers to be most beneficial to the local motoring market. We are glad the objectives were achieved, and are delighted to see more clients and their MG vehicles on the road.”
In the first half of 2020, the company had opened MG Congressional, MG Sucat, MG Bacoor, MG Calasiao, MG Marilao, and MG Bohol. MG PH has committed to open six more new dealerships in various locations nationwide before the end of the year, part of its strategy to further strengthen its position here. This will push the total dealerships to 30.
MG Philippines is also continuing its “Forward With All Frontliners” sales promo, offering zero down payment or generous cash discounts on the fully loaded 5 sedan, and a zero down payment scheme with a three-month payment holiday scheme on the RX5 SUV.
The firm has also rolled out “innovative aftersales services relevant to the current COVID-19 landscape,” such as “MG Online Garage: a service which allows MG owners to engage in a video call with an MG technician for at-home car diagnosis and troubleshooting; and MG Online Chat service: a function on the MG Philippines website, mgmotor.com.ph, which allows users to engage in a live chat session with MG personnel to discuss any MG-related inquiries.” MG described these new online features as “timely” additions to its aftersales menu so that customers could access certain aftersales services remotely and safely, per accepted health protocols.
