MIAS 2017: Chevrolet Philippines showcased 2017 Spark

MANILA: After introducing the updated version of the A-segment hatch, the American automaker, Chevrolet has showcased it at the ongoing MIAS 2017. Yes, along with the 2017 Chevrolet Trax, Chevrolet Philippines has also showcased the updated version of Spark, which was launched a few days ago in the Philippines. The new Spark is not only aggressive in looking but, also holds improvement in the performance.

The front features sleeker and sharp headlights and revised dual-port grille. In the top model, the manufacturer has made the provision of halogen lights, LED daytime running lights, heated & power folding side mirrors. The entry level model is fitted with 14-inch alloy wheels while the top model comes with a 15-inch set. The 2017 Chevrolet Spark also comes with window-mounted rear door handles that are carried forward from the previous generation model. The new tailgate spoiler and quarter-flanking taillights complete the exterior package.

The overall dimensions of the hatch measure 3635 mm X 1595 mm X 1483 mm (L X W X H) and the wheelbase measure 2,385 mm. In the cabin, a new 7-inch MyLink infotainment system with Aux, USB, Bluetooth, 60:40 split rear seats, 12V power socket and three-spoke multifunction steering wheel are the new added features while the seat structure and comfort level are similar to the previous generation model.

Under the hood, a 1.4-litre Ecotec inline four dual variable valve timing (DVVT) engine is equipped which delivers 99 PS maximum power at 6200 rpm and 128 Nm peak torque at 4400 rpm. Transmission duties are handled by either a 5-speed manual gearbox and continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Safety measures include ISOFIX child seat anchors in the rear seats, window rear defogger, central locking, engine immobilizer, anti-theft alarm, front, passenger side airbags and traction control.

The 2017 Chevrolet Spark (M/T) price starts at Php 648,888 while the LT CVT and LTZ CVT are priced at Php 682,888 and Php 763,888 respectively. The car is already available in the market and let’s see how the new version competes against the other models in the respective segment.
