Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific starts this weekend

MANILA: Porsche has officially launched the Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific, giving e-racers from all over the region an opportunity to experience the thrill of a new e-sports challenge.

Sim racers from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Brunei will be battling it out on the virtual racetracks of the series. Racers will be competing against each other across five initial qualifying rounds. Each round will feature two competition slots. The five top-scoring racers from each market will qualify to the next stage, wherein the grand champion will receive an all-expense paid weekend in Tokyo, Japan. The trip will include a visit at the Porsche Experience Center Tokyo and other Porsche-related activities.

The qualifying rounds will be conducted on the digital versions of the world’s most iconic racing circuits, including Le Mans, Fuji Speedway, Mount Panorama Circuit of the Bathurst 24 Hour race, and Goodwood Motor Circuit. The series will feature Porsche 919 Hybrid, Porsche 962 C, Porsche 356 A, among others. The first round of the Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific will be held on Sunday, September 5.

To join the online qualifying races, select Sport Mode in Gran Turismo then choose the Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific 2021 event. Racers must be18 years old or above.

“As virtual motorsports accelerate, Porsche’s eSports racing scene has emerged as one of the biggest in the industry. Besides the brand’s single-make Porsche Sports Supercup virtual racing championship and the Porsche SimRacing Trophy, Porsche has organized digital competitions at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and has celebrated the world of professional sim racing with the Porsche eSports Days at IAA 2019,” Porsche said in a statement.

Since 2019, Porsche Japan has been organizing the annual Porsche eSports Racing Japan along with the Porsche Carrera Cup and Porsche Sprint Challenge Japan.
