Sunday, speedy Sunday: Team PH set to vie for GR Supra GT Cup Asia 2020 crown
MANILA: This weekend, the winners of the GR Supra GT Cup Asia 2020 regional finals will finally be known after what is expected to be a thrilling day of online races.
Team Philippines is composed of Jose Altoveros, Lance Padilla, and Terence Lallave, who won in the country's GR Supra GT Cup Asia tournament last September. They will be competing against 12 other GR Supra GT Cup Asia 2020 national winners from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and India in the regional championship.
The champions of the series will be declared after three races or rounds on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Tokyo Expressway East Outer Loop, and Fuji Speedway.
The story of Team Philippines started with the first-ever e-motorsport competition of Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), the GR Supra GT Cup Asia Philippines. Aspirants competed using the GR Supra of the Gran Turismo Sport game on PlayStation for the opportunity to become the country’s representative at the regional-level tournament.
TMP Vice President for Marketing Services Elijah Marcial said, “We have followed Team Philippines' journey right from our local qualifying and final rounds and we have seen their determination and indomitable spirit. I am confident Terence, Lance, and Jose will not let us down in the regional finals, and they will give their best for the Philippines."
Toyota Motor Asia Pacific (TMAP) will be hosting the regional championship of the GR Supra GT Cup Asia, under the umbrella of Toyota Gazoo Racing motorsport events.
As part of their preparation for the regional competition, TMP, together with its race management partner Tuason Racing held training sessions for the racers to improve on their race tactics and get ready for the tracks.
TMP also collaborated with PLDT Enterprise to offer seamless internet connectivity for the three players during the race with other Asian contenders.
Filipino fans can view the GR Supra GT Cup Asia 2020 online on October 25 (Sunday, 7 p.m. Philippine time) through the official Facebook page of TMP here. They can cheer and send messages of support to the Philippine team during the live broadcast online through the use of the hashtags, #TeamPhilippines and #GRSupraGTCupAsia.
More details regarding the e-motorsport series can be found at the One Esports website here.
