Toyota 86 Trio - A special tribute to 24 Hours of Le Mans

MANILA:  Toyota pays homage to the 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is regarded as the greatest endurance races in the world, by producing three special edition Toyota 86. The Toyota 86 gets different heritage liveries that honored former Toyota Le Mans racers.

Developed by Toyota UK, the cars have been given some special treatment like all the three models get a rear spoiler fixed at the back, a much-lowered suspension and striking aftermarket wheels. While the rear spoiler is inspired by the aggressive aero look of the Le Mans racers, the wheels’ design of different cars is said to represent their respective racers. The suspension has been lowered by 40mm. The cars also get a stainless steel Milltek exhaust.

Talking about the different liveries, the oldest amongst the three is the blue-on-white Casio livery. It was introduced on the Toyota TS010 for the very first time and the LMP1 car secured the second spot in the 1992 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. At heart, it had a 3.5-litre V10 engine that produced around 700 PS of power.

Next up is the second most famous red-white Zent livery, originally introduced on the Toyota TS020 or the GT-One. It secured second place at the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans. Finally, it’s the livery that was used on the 2016 TS050 Hybrid. This LMP1 version of the Toyota did it all to win the title at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans but unfortunately couldn’t.

These special edition Toyota 86 are never going to enter production at any stage in future, Toyota confirmed. This year’s endurance race, 24 Hours of Le Mans, is scheduled to take place on June 16 and June 17 at the Circuit de la Sarthe in France.
