Toyota in Trend to Follow Turbo
MANILA: Seems turbo is the new trend in Japan, as not only Toyota but its other co-mates in the industry, Nissan and Honda are also giving the ' Turbo' effect to their products for better performance. Does that mean that the battlefield is ready and the competition is on, where nobody is ready to compromise on performance and regulations? For those who are unaware, turbo is basically a space efficient solution which increases the power output of a given engine size without increasing its displacement.
As heard, Toyota is in plans to discontinue its 3.5-litre V6 engine and replaces it with a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four. This will not only be done for Camry but several other Toyota nameplates as well. This reminds that recently we read about Lexus IS series to go turbo as well. Lexus is the luxury brand of Toyota. However, following Old is Gold, Toyota will retain their inline-four cyl. machine but will refine them with better fuel injection technology, improved combustion and wider application of CVTs.
Honda is also coming up soon with 2016 Civic which is slated to be revealed in the U.S. with a 1.5-litre Earth Dreams VTEC turbocharged inline-four. Honda Accord’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder will also be replaced by the same 1.5-litre turbo. On the other hand, Nissan's Sylphy turbocharged is already on sale in some markets like Thailand and Singapore. Nissan Juke is also armed with 1.6-litre turbo inline-four engine producing 190 PS and 240 Nm of torque.
'To improve is to change and change is the only constant.' This is apt for the automobile industry where currently every brand is focusing on delivering the best and obviously this Japanese trio is trying to thrive on turbo.
