Toyota to sell parts for the famed 2000GT
MANILA: If you’re lucky enough to be one of the 351 owners of the highly collectible Toyota 2000GT and you need spare parts, GR (Gazoo Racing) Heritage Parts Project has them for you.
The 2000GT, which sold at an auction for US$1.16 million (the most expensive Asian car ever sold), is the third model in this project following the Supra A70 and A80.
This grand tourer was between 1967 and 1970 and was a collaboration between Yamaha and Toyota. 342 examples use a 2.0-liter inline-six engine with 148hp and 175Nm of torque, while nine units have a 2.3-liter inline-six engine with 138hp but 201Nm of torque.
It is fitted with a five-speed gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels.
Top speed is 220kph.
Prior to its launch, it already broke three world records, 13 international records, and also picked up wins in various races.
Two open-top versions were specifically made for a cameo in the 1967 James Bond movie “You Only Live Twice” starring Sean Connery, which was filmed in Japan.
Beginning 01 August 2020, the GR Heritage Parts website will be updated and orders will be accepted. Due to the uniqueness of the Toyota 2000GT, sales will be restricted to owners, to prevent reselling; and the number of parts sold will be limited per car.
