Updated Mazda CX-9 teased; launch later this month

MANILA: Teasers! They go a long way in rousing the interest of the car buying public. After all, if you are in the market shopping for cars, then the latest car is what you should and will buy. Mazda Philippines has been teasing us with a handful of its new cars. While you can read all about the new MX-5 and Mazda 6 here, there is also the new CX-9 coming up. The updated Mazda CX-9 along with the others will be on display at the Philippine International Motor Show from October 24.

While the underpinnings of Mazda’s flagship SUV remains the same, there are updates to make it relevant to the current age. While the updated Mazda CX-9 specifications for the Philippines market isn’t out yet, here are a few things we believe will trickle down.  These include more features as well as refinements to the powertrain. In terms of features, Mazda is finally adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to its stream of cars. On the updated CX-9, this will be a standard fare. Ventilated Nappa leather seats will be standard equipment while the suspension too is said to be upgraded. It will be quieter than before and the spring ratings have been revised to provide for an even better experience. In-cabin noise too will be reduced significantly. A 360-degree camera too will be provided on the higher trim to ease parking woes of this 5-meter plus SUV.

Powering the Mazda CX-9 will be the familiar 2.5-litre SkyActiv turbocharged petrol engine. This engine produces upwards of 250 PS and 420 Nm of torque. This engine is claimed to have smoother power delivery than before. Power will be fed to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic. Mazda will also offer the optional AWD with this powertrain.
