Volkswagen T-Cross lineup in the UK welcomes a new heart

MANILA: For the T-Cross SEL and R-Line trims, Volkswagen has brought out a new heart as we see the engine and transmission options in the compact SUV's lineup go up top six for the masses in the UK. Joining the already available 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI and the 1.6-litre diesel is a 1.5-litre four-pot turbocharged petrol-fed mill.

While the previously available 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI and 1.6-litre diesel powerhouses produced 93.6 hp and 113.3 hp of maximum power, respectively, the new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered motor is capable of generating 147 hp of maximum power. With that said, the new mill is now the most powerful option in the lineup.

Speaking of the power figures, the 1.5-litre four-pot turbocharged engine enables the Volkswagen T-Cross to do a 0 to 100 kmph in 8.5 seconds. Around 200 kmph is where the compact SUV with its new heart tops out at. The claimed fuel efficiency reads 44.0 mpg on the combined WLTP cycle. Moreover, the compact SUV releases 118-119 g/km of CO2 (NEDC).

As for the transmission, the new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine comes mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission. The T-Cross is no different, and those who would like an even more potent engine can now be catered for. The T-Cross’s motto is “I am more than one thing”, and the addition of this punchy new engine into the mix only goes to broaden the appeal of the car still further", said Claire Haynes, T-Cross product manager at Volkswagen UK.

In a world where the demand for SUVs and crossovers is experiencing a surge, Volkswagen sees itself as one of the better-placed automakers on the charts with a rather large SUV and crossover portfolio. Also, the German automaker will soon launch the T-Roc Cabriolet and the T-Roc R performance SUV in order to strengthen its hold in the market.
