Why not a bomb-resistant Range Rover?

MANILA: There was never a shortage of Range Rover models by Land Rover. However, an extra cherry on the cake is of no harm either. That is just what the Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division has done. And guess what? The cherry is a big and sweet one! Known to come up with some extravagant versions of the Ranger Rover cars,

SVO has this time around beefed up a Range Rover to make it bomb-resistant. No no, that is not a typo, neither did you read that wrong. Called the Range Rover Sentinel, this beefed up SUV does not look too different than the standard long-wheelbase variant of the car.

While not much is known about the ballistic resistance of the Sentinel, Land Rover claims that the SUV can withstand an IED (improvised explosive device) explosion. We expect the car to also protect the occupants from high calibre round fires. To no surprise, all the safety measures have resulted in an increase of 1,000 kg over the total weight of the SUV.

The manufacturer has upgraded the stability control system, brakes, suspension, and chassis to keep the performance of the Ranger Rover Sentinel intact. Land Rover has claimed that the mods have not affected the off-road capabilities of the SUV.

Under the hood of this bomb-resistant Ranger Rover is a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 motor throwing out 380 PS of maximum power. The SUV can do a 0-100 kmph run in 10.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 193 kmph.

Other features on the Sentinel include windows which go down only by 6-inch or 150 mm, that is enough for handing off documents. A PA system along with lights and siren package is also present on the SUV.

The Ranger Rover Sentinel will not be limited to British government personnel as private individuals can also grab one for themselves. The price of the SUV, however, has not been revealed yet. How many millions do you think the bomb-resistant fortress will cost?
