From The Experts

Things we like

The light weighted character of the Yamaha Sight, due to its lean profile and slim bodywork, makes the overall handling and riding dynamics pretty sorted. Adding to the convenience and finesse of the riding dynamics is the supple suspension setup formed by telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic coil springs at the rear

The Yamaha Sight is launched keeping the entry-level bike market audience in mind, and at PHP 59,900, it makes up for a very strong case for itself as a simple and no-nonsense commuter

The four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected, 114cc engine of the Yamaha Sight is robust and built to last, and at the same time, offers a good balance of performance and fuel economy. Among all the entry-level cub class bikes, the Yamaha Sight ranks itself as one of the most fuel-efficient ones

The Yamaha Sniper 150 boasts of a very aggressive bodywork, especially at the front, which does give it an edgy appeal of a premium sportsbike. In addition to it, there are a couple of design elements like sleek daytime running lamps on the front apron and alloy wheels do give it a modern visual appeal.

Positioned as a premium cub class bike, there are some features which do try to give the Yamaha Sniper 150 a premium advantage over others in its class. The daytime running lamps at the front, alloy wheels, part digital instrument console, and key shutter mechanism do aid in making the Yamaha Sniper 150 a class above.

The four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 149.7cc engine in the Yamaha Sniper 150 produces 15.4PS of power and 13.8Nm of torque. While these figures do make the Yamaha Sniper 150, the most powerful cub class bike in its class, the refinement levels of this engine too a notch higher than the competition

The Yamaha Sniper 150 has disc brakes at both the ends – 245mm front and 203mm rear, which give it the best-in-class braking capabilities

Things we don't like

The bare-bones appeal of the Yamaha Sight is quite evident from its equipment list. The lack of a number of modern comfort and convenience features make the Yamaha Sight a bike strictly for those who prefer function over form

The skinny tyres of Yamaha Sight just lack the grip levels required for instant cornering and braking conditions, which might make the riders nervous in emergency cases

The Yamaha Sight comes with a very small under-seat storage capacity of just 9 litres, which is handy only for storing small knick-knacks, but not for even a half-face helmet, which makes it less practical when it comes ferrying small luggage while on the move

While the front apron of the Yamaha Sniper 150 does make it look very aggressive and sporty, the rear portion of this cub class bike makes it look a bit puny and too slim as compared to the front. Also, the skinny tires do further reduce the muscularity of it.

For a product which is pitched as an urban commuter, the lack of luggage hooks and an under-seat storage compartment do cut the practicality of the Yamaha Sniper 150. For a premium commuter, the Yamaha Sniper 150 lacks the crucial feature of LED headlamp, which is gradually becoming a norm in even many of lower-priced scooters
