The latest prototype of the KTM 790 Adventure R looks production-ready

MANILA: The KTM 790 Duke was one of the most anticipated motorcycles of the year. Ever since its spy shots break cover, we’ve been eagerly waiting for it to hit the showrooms. Now, since the 790 Duke is out of the equation, we could soon see the 790 Adventure R in flesh. KTM has unveiled an advanced prototype of the bike at an exclusive event in Sardinia, Italy.

We’ve seen the spy shots of the 790 Adventure R in the past. Now, this prototype has been presented without any disguise, and most probably, this could be very close to the production-ready model.

Chris Birch, eight times New Zealand enduro champion, who rode the bike, commented, "I'm honestly blown away by the new KTM 790 Adventure R. Naturally, I've got a lot of experience on enduro bikes and the awesome ability of the big KTM Adventure models, and this just feels like the perfect combination of them both. Obviously, what I rode is still a prototype, but it's looking in terrific shape. Can't wait to ride the final product!"

KTM 790 Adventure R would come with some of the finest pieces of equipment the industry has to offer. We can clearly see the USD WP forks at the front with full covers to keep all the dust and dirt away. There’s a huge bash plate underneath the bike to protect the necessary engine parts. The high ground clearance, upright riding stance, and big knobby tires would make the 790 Adventure R a hit among the off-road enthusiasts. This motorcycle is definitely going to be lighter than its elder siblings that are currently being sold in the Philippines market.

KTM says that the 790 Adventure R will feature adjustable ergonomics. This could mean that the position of the handlebar and footpegs can be adjusted or altered as per rider’s needs and comfort. We’re also expecting to see KTM’s latest and advanced electronics package which would include cornering ABS and traction control.

Powering the upcoming KTM 790 Adventure R will be the same 799cc, twin-cylinder engine that KTM has provided with the 790 Duke. It’s an amazing engine with lots of power and torque. Most probably, KTM is going to re-tune the engine to suit the character of the 790 Adventure R.

As of now, there are no official dates that could promise the launch of the 790 Adventure, but it’s being anticipated that KTM might showcase the bike at this year’s EICMA show in Nov, and we could expect to see the bike in showrooms by early 2019.
