The Japanese automaker Mitsubishi is one of the biggest names in the auto world, a brand that is famous for redefined performance and style. The company however, in a growing economy like Philippines is more famous for its commercial utility than anything else, in producing commercial vehicles. In 2007, ASX introduced its stylish crossover SUV, ASX which is an interesting alternative to compact SUVs of other brands. Although it is not all rounder but still it brings forward the practicality of an economy crossover. The designing and engineering of ASX share the platform with Concept-CX. The refreshed version of ASX includes the efficient engine, appealing looks and better performance.

Interior & Features

Although the interior is not best in the segment but still it manages to attain a dignified respect. The driver has good range of adjustment in seats and steering wheel which makes him less tired in long drive with comfortable posture while lumbar support over the seat also makes it more comfortable to sit. In front all controls are within easy reach while the bright LCD screen displays the useful amount of information between two main dials which looks crisp and easy to read. Interior fails to offer much visual interest while the impressive list of standard kit and controls are laid out impeccably. Inside the ample amount of legroom and headroom is available but there is no individual sliding seats. The foldable seats enhance 348 litre of cargo space arrangement to a massive 1193 litres.

The robust and impressively styled crossover has the capability to attract the huge amount of eyes towards it with catering the perfect blend of practicality and improved designs. The exquisite styles are crafted over the standard dimensions measuring as 4295 mm x 1780 mm x 1627 mm (L x W x H). The quick glance at ASX confirms it to be a predictable application of brand's corporate design language. In front, front grille is stretched to fit the tall proportions while energy absorbing bumpers and plastic wings make it achieve the safety mechanism. Using the bigger car platform absolutely cuts the manufacturing cost where the pronounced crease along the sides of ASX enhances rising window line and intended to make car look dynamic. The distinctively shaped headlights expresses company's jet fighter inspired styling while the bonnet is designed with two bulges. The rear spoiler allows the drive achieve relatively good drag coefficient balancing the awkward looking rear leg. The car possesses a decent wheelbase which lies at 2670 mm.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

The all new ASX comes in two variants namely GSR and GLS which house the standard 2.0-litre 4 inline 16 valve DOHC petrol engine employed with multi point sequential injection enhancing the performance and fuel consumption of engine. The engine is capable of generating a maximum power output measuring 150 hp of power while delivering a maximum torque of 197 Nm at 4200 rpm. Mated with 5-speed automatic transmission the engine makes feasible driving with smooth gearshifts. One you get in and start the engine, it will take around 11.5 seconds to cross the checkpoint of 100 kmph while the drive achieves the highest speed of 190 kmph effortlessly. The multi point fuel injection technology embedded leads to less consumption of fuel and hence the car can make 100 km sipping 7.7 litre of petrol which is not compromised with power and performance.

Braking & Safety

In order to makes the safety and protection of driver and passenger, Mitsubishi is embedded with airbags system for driver and front passenger which can be activated depending upon situation. The hill start assist enhances its off-road capability while stability control system maintains traction in slippery condition. The dynamic braking system consists of disc brakes for front wheel and solid disc brakes for rear wheel. Empowering the braking system, ASX is equipped with ABS and EBD technology. Further the decent suspension system is engaged which comprises Independent MacPherson Strut with Coil springs and stabilizer bar for front and independent multi link suspension system for rear.

The practically safe, easy to drive and affordable to run is the reason why ASX is getting a huge market share, although it’s economical aspect is also a driving force behind it’s sales. However, most of the competitors of Mitsubishi ASX better the reviewed drive in aesthetic aspects.
