French automakers do have a touch of flair when it comes to designing their cars, and the Peugeot 5008 is one of the best examples of it. The Peugeot 5008 was launched in 2009 for the first time as a compact SUV, which at that time looked more like an MPV. However, the 5008 received its first makeover in 2017, and boy, what transformation it is. One of the most futuristic looking SUVs on sale in the world, the Peugeot 5008 in the Philippines is sold in its 7-seater version, with one petrol engine option and a single fully loaded variant. Colors offered on the Peugeot 5008 are Emerald Crystal, Pearl White, Platinum Grey and Pyrite, with the SUV being priced at Php 2,990,000.

Interior & Features

On the inside too, the Peugeot 5008 has the same next-gen styling theme as on the outside, with every panel and feature making one believe that it is an SUV from tomorrow. The overall design of the cabin and dashboard looks really cool, yet at the same time, is pretty luxurious as well.

The steering wheel with flat theme for the top/bottom portions as well as hexagonal center, looks very unique and appears as if it has been lifted off from a gaming console. The same hexagonal and unique theme has been carried out on the fully digital instrument console as well, which has almost all the essential readouts in a very funky manner.

The overall shape of all the AC vents on the dashboard is slim and looks premium, thanks to chrome touches on it. At the center of the dashboard sits the high mounted 8-inch trapezoidal touchscreen infotainment system in a pop-up style. The transmission tunnel as well as the center console with brushed aluminium and piano black finishes looks as if it has been lifted off from the cockpit of a fighter jet. It has toggle like buttons for automatic climate control and other functions.

The other prominent features of the Peugeot 5008’s cabin include 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, adjustable seat cushion, manually height-adjustable co-driver seat, heating and massage function for front seats. It also has leather upholstery, cruise control, electric parking brake, 6 speakers, dual zone climate control, push button start with keyless entry and onboard wi-fi. The overall seating layout and space levels inside the Peugeot 5008 are impressive, with all the three rows providing sufficient seating comfort for seven passengers.

The Peugeot 5008 is one perfect example of how an ugly/weird design can be transformed into one gorgeous looking design. In its latest version, the Peugeot 5008 has a very futuristic appeal in its design, which is bound to turn heads for sure.

At the front, the Peugeot 5008 has got an all-new face, which gets the prime presence of a smiley-like chrome grille. The headlamps shaped like a comma look really distinctive, and with the full LED lighting theme (LED projectors and daytime running lights), it really looks striking. The silver skid plates positioned below the large front bumper looks nice, whereas the high mounted fog lamps with chrome accents add in some wow factor to the frontal stance.

From the side, the impression generated by the frontal stance dilutes a bit. However, the overall side profile still looks proportionate with high shoulder line and two sharp character lines on the sides. The large 5-spoke machined alloy wheels add in some more oomph factor too.

At the rear, things start getting even more futuristic looking, thanks to the presence of a piano black finish between the large rectangular full LED tail lamps, which have a waterfall like design. The rest of the rear door looks like a conventional SUV with as little drama as possible, with the only other prominent detail being the high body cladding. The presence of thin roof rails and large roof spoiler add in further sportiness to the design.

Ride & Handling

The Peugeot 5008 comes equipped with Pseudo MacPherson axle at the front and twist-beam axle with hydraulic pressurized shock absorbers at the rear. The overall suspension setting is on the plusher side, but at the same time, it has the ability to unveil its wilder side, courtesy the advanced grip control system. It provides four different driving modes – normal, snow, mud, sand and ESP off for tackling all kinds of surface with equal ease.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

For the Philippine market, Peugeot has made the 5008 available in only one variant with single power option. The engine in question is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is powerful enough to churn out 165 bhp of maximum power and 240 Nm of maximum torque. All this power is channelled to the front wheels via a conventional 6-speed torque converter.

Braking & Safety

Apart from a host of futuristic, comfort and convenience features, the Peugeot 5008 is quite heavily loaded with some nice safety features as well. You do get a lot of safety kits like airbags (front, side, curtain), ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program, front/rear parking sensors, 360-degree rear view camera, advanced grip control with five different modes, cruise control with speed limiter and blind spot information system.

For a compact seven-seater SUV, the Peugeot 5008 is quite expensive given it comes from a rather mass-oriented manufacturer. However, keeping aside that sole aspect, you can’t ignore how premium and futuristic this SUV is. The overall exterior, as well as interior design, has been designed with immense creativity, which oozes sophistication and futuristic appeal. At the same time, it tries to justify its premium appeal with the number of comfort and safety features it has to offer. The performance from the small turbocharged engine too is pretty impressive. So is the ride quality and handling, thanks to the host of electronic driving aids on offer. All in all, the Peugeot 5008 tries to sweep you off your feet just from the way it looks and feels, which is the biggest reason why people do buy high-range SUVs.
