Bajaj goes electric in PH with Wego launch

MANILA: Bajaj Philippines—under the stewardship of Trimotors Technology Corporation—has rolled out the Wego P5009. 

Per the local wing of the Indian three-wheeler manufacturer, the newest addition to its stable “is built to deliver practical performance, convenience, and savings for everyday mobility.” 

As such, the company highlighted five key features that make the Bajaj Wego an appealing choice for businesses and cooperatives, as well as small government organizations looking to update their fleet.

Reliable electric powertrain

Propulsion for the Bajaj Wego comes from a 4.5 kilowatt electric motor (which usually generates some 6 horsepower) paired with a 9.2 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery.

According to the company, the powertrain “is built for reliable everyday performance, giving drivers the power they need for their daily routes.” 

Relative torque was not disclosed, but the Bajaj Wego can haul approximately up to 850 kilograms, or equivalent to four passengers.

Decent range

When it comes to range, the Bajaj Wego can travel up to 212 kilometers (km) on a single charge, making it more than capable of carrying out delivery duties in the city, as well as for public transport use for end-of-mile mobility needs. 

Further, it could answer the transport needs of local government and private organizations that require covering short to medium distances for various types of fieldwork.

Adequate charging

The Bajaj Wego can be charged fully in four and a half hours.

Considering that it is a light utility three-wheeler, such charging speed is considered pretty adequate. On that note, operators and owners can quickly juice up their vehicles and get ready for the next journey.

Smart driving modes

With acceptable capabilities, the Bajaj Wego is endowed with smart driving modes—to help would-be owners tailor their experience to suit their driving needs.

Offering flexibility are Eco, Power, Climb, and Park Assist modes. 

As the names suggest, Eco would be best suited for saving battery power; while Power serves as the “sport mode,” which makes the drive more responsive and the acceleration more peppy.

Meanwhile, Climb is ideal for crawling up inclines; with Park Assist working well for moving into a stationary position.

Battery efficient

Bajaj Philippines shared that the Wego can run for approximately P0.8 per kilometer—factoring in its 9.216 kWh battery, a P15 electricity rate, and its 212 km range.

“Mas tipid sa bawat biyahe, mas maraming pwedeng kitain, at mas maraming savings para sa ating Ka-Bajaj (better efficiency in every trip, more opportunities to earn, better savings for our Ka-Bajaj),” the company wrote.

Who is it for? 

Part of Bajaj Philippines’ launch campaign is pointing out who its newest offering is for.

Divided into three categories and represented by three personalities, the marketing initiative highlights the aforementioned features highlighted by the marque. 

“Every day, people move for a reason. Some work for a living. Some grow their businesses. Some serve their communities. Their journeys may be different, but they all need the same thing: a vehicle that can keep up with their dreams,” Bajaj Philippines noted.

For the everyday worker, the Bajaj Wego means more income and less cost per kilometer. Because for daily earners and hustlers, every peso saved means something more for the family.

On the other hand, a manager and “growth builder” can use the electric three-wheeler to make operations more efficient and reach more opportunities to grow smarter and scale faster.

Finally, those in charge of local government units (LGU) can take advantage of the Bajaj Wego to build better services and more sustainable communities. With every modern step forward, an LGU can move closer to its goal of modernizing transportation and strengthening the community.

Price, limited free charging kit 

To make the shift to electric mobility even more accessible, every Bajaj Wego will sell for P329,888.

Upon purchase of the three-wheeler, the battery, motor, and vehicle are covered by a 36-month or 50,000-km warranty, whichever comes first. 

In addition, the first 100 customers will get a free charging kit with their Bajaj Wego.
