Hino XZU730L Review
Abhishek Katariya says
The Hino XZU730L is one step above the most affordable light-duty truck from Hino, XZU710L. The Hino XZU730L is for those who prefer the ease of driving of a compact light-duty truck but the capabilities and performance of a slightly bigger medium-duty truck. In the Philippines, the Hino XZU730L is available in a single variant, the XZU730LN.
Hino XZU730L Interior & Features
The cabin of the Hino XZU730L has the same sense of simplicity and basicness in its layout as what it is there on the outside. The cabin has an all-black layout and gets all the necessary bits and features which should be there as standard for comfort and convenience.
The Hino XZU730L has a simple-looking driver’s cockpit, comprising of a two-spoke steering wheel and a basic instrument console, which has a small LCD screen for the fuel gauge. The dashboard has rounded AC vents on its extreme corners. There are two additional rounded AC vents on either side of the centre console.
The centre console of the Hino XZU730L’s cabin has a practical design, as it covers all the basic grounds with a 1-DIN audio system in the upper half between the AC vents. It also has a control panel for AC and an open storage compartment placed side-by-side in the lower half of the centre console. The practicality of the cabin of the Hino XZU730L is further enhanced by a closed and an open glove box on the passenger side of the dashboard.
XZU730L Exterior
The Hino XZU730L shares its entire design with the smaller XZU710L, which makes it look not so distinctive. One can even mistake it for the smaller XZU710L, as the overall design is exactly similar to the former.
The front profile of the Hino XZU730L has two different halves. There is a huge windscreen that covers the entire upper half of the front profile. The rearview mirrors are mounted on small cylindrical mounts, which are present there in the lower edges of the front windscreen.
At the bottom of the front profile, the lower half of the Hino XZU730L is characterized by large trapezoidal headlamp clusters, which come fitted with a projector main bulb and clear lens indicators within them. There is a wide chrome-finished grille spread across the width between the headlamp clusters, which come with two thick horizontal chrome slats and a rounded chrome logo above them. The Hino XZU730L gets a thin-looking front bumper, which comes with provisions of fitting rounded fog lamps, which are otherwise absent in it.
The side profile of the Hino XZU730L has a very simple and conventional look to it, with a large trapezoidal side window covering the entire upper half of the side door panels. There are a couple of curved character lines present on the door panels, which come fitted with blacked out door handles. The Hino XZU730L is characterized as a light-duty truck, so it is not tall enough to accommodate side steps or side body moulding over its wheel arches.
Hino XZU730L Ride & Handling
The Hino XZU730L shares its basic architecture with the smaller XZU710L. This includes the ladder-on-frame chassis as well as the suspension combination of semi-elliptical leaf springs with double-action shock absorbers at the front and semi-elliptical main and auxiliary leaf springs with double-action shock absorbers at the rear. For braking duties, the Hino XZU730L is equipped with hydraulic, dual-circuit, vacuum-assisted service brake and mechanical, internal expanding, acting on transmission shaft output parking brake.
XZU730L Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the Hino XZU730L is a 4.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which it shares with the smaller XZU710L. Coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox here, the engine pumps out a maximum power output of 150 PS and a maximum torque output of 420 Nm.
Hino XZU730L Braking & Safety
The Hino XZU730L feels basic when it comes to having safety features, as the truck only gets the basics in the form of ABS, a lockable passenger compartment and three-point safety seat belts.
XZU730L Verdict
For the purposes for which it has been designed and engineered, the Hino XZU730L delivers more than what is expected out of it. The truck has sorted mechanicals and dynamics, making it a decent option for the price it asks.
