MAN TGX

The entire cabin of the MAN TGX is a straight lift-off of the TGS, which makes it feel as plush and feature-rich as the latter. However, we would have loved to see more individualism in the cabin layout and list of features offered in the TGX.

Like the TGS, the cabin of the MAN TGX is also offered in a dual-tone Moon Grey theme and is loaded with modern features that one can rarely find in a truck. Behind the four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, which has a satin chrome finish for the spokes, the driver’s cockpit of the TGX has a large and wide full-TFT instrument console.

The centre console of the MAN TGX faces towards the driver and has a huge and wide layout comprising of a host of features. The star highlight of this driver-facing centre console is the large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which sits between the electronic parking brake switch and an AC vent in the upper half of the centre console.

The lower centre console of the dashboard of the MAN TGX comprises a host of physical buttons, including those for the audio system and fully-automatic air conditioning. Even the outer sides of the centre console towards the co-driver side of the cabin look wide and house a nicely-carved storage space and bottle holders.

With the TGX as its flagship offering, MAN has given its best shot in design and visual appeal for heavy-duty trucks. The MAN TGX is based on the TGS, which explains the similarities in their design, though the former looks a bit more premium with additional chrome highlights and minor tweaks carried out in its front profile design.

The tallish front profile of the MAN TGX has a trapezoidal windscreen with black surrounds in the upper half. The upper corners of the roof also come affixed with amber turn indicators. The lower front apron and front bumper of the TGX look slightly different from those of the TGS. Here, the trapezoidal grille in the middle comes with a different-looking chrome garnish at its top, while the grille extends down towards the lower air dam in the middle of the front bumper.

The air dam sitting in the middle of the front bumper has multiple horizontal chrome slats, which add more premium appeal to the front profile of the truck. Like the TGS, the TGX also gets angular headlamps consisting of LED projectors and daytime running LEDs. However, the fog lamp housings look different here, with the lowermost part of the front bumper having a sporty and aggressive design.

Available in multiple drive combinations, including 4x2, 4x4, 6x2, 6x4, 6x6, 8x2, 8x4 and 8x6, the MAN TGX range has one model for every potential buyer of a heavy-duty truck. All of these are built on rugged and reliable platforms, which makes them durable in the long run. The car-like steering wheel not only looks good but is also easy to operate with its light, power-assisted feedback.

The MAN TGX range of heavy-duty trucks is being offered in three inline-six diesel engine options, two of which have been shared with the TGS range of trucks. These two diesel engine options are a 12.4-litre D626 series engine (power output between 440-520 PS) and a 9.0-litre D1556 series diesel engine (power output between 330-400 PS). There is also a range-topping 15.2-litre diesel engine, the power output of which ranges between 540 PS to 640 PS. The 8-speed semi-automatic transmission has been shared with the TGS.

The premium safety features offered in the MAN TGX as standard are reverse parking sensors and camera, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure control system with temperature display, traffic sign recognition, and alcohol interlock capability.

With a premium design and appeal inside-out, modern-day car-like features and assured quality and reliability in its mechanicals, the MAN TGX feels worth the premium price it commands.
