T-King T1 Review

Abhishek Katariya says

Abhishek Katariya

The T-King T1 is the most affordable and smallest light-duty truck available from the commercial lineup of the Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer QSJ Motors. The affordable pricing and decent mechanicals promised by the T-King T1 make it a noteworthy option for all prospective light-duty truck buyers. The 12-feet T-King T1 is being offered in the Philippines in a single variant, with the only colour option being that of white.

T-King T1 Interior & Features

While the exterior design of the T-King T1 looks very functional, the interior cabin has a modern layout for a cabin of the truck. The cabin gets a dual-tone black and grey theme, but the chrome highlights around the centre console and AC vents lighten the ambience of the cabin.

The T-King T1 has a four-spoke steering wheel, behind which one can find a simple looking all-analogue instrument console with a small digital screen for a couple of basic data. The centre console looks very car-like, with a 1-DIN music system compatible with AM/FM radio.

In the lower half of the centre console itself, you can find the manually-operated dials for manual AC. Apart from the centre console, the far corners of the dashboard also come with AC vents on them. Between the seats, you get the high-mounted transmission lever, while the door panels have curved grab handles above them.

T1 Exterior

The T-King T1 has a very generic visual appearance when viewed from the outside. While it retains the conventional block-shaped look which is reminiscent of other old-school trucks, the overall design is decent and easy to the eyes.

The T-King T1 doesn’t get a much taller appearance when viewed from the front but looks very truck-ish with its squared stance. The upper half of the T1 is entirely covered by the large windshield, which has black surrounds with curved upper edges and slightly tapered lower edges. The rearview mirrors, which are blacked-out units, are mounted on small curved pillars placed below the lower edges of the windscreen. These rearview mirrors have curved stalks, which make the front profile look extremely wide.

The lower half of the T-King T1 is prominently covered by a two-slat grille present at the bottom of the front apron. These two slats are shaped in the form of a trapezium, with a rounded logo of QSJ motors present in between them. Between the grille and the windscreen, the truck gets huge T-King lettering spread across the width of the front apron.

The lower edges of the front profile get vertically-stacked headlamps, which include trapezoidal main headlights and tilted strips of amber turn indicators above them within the headlamp housings. The front bumper of the T-King T1 looks fairly simple, which is shaped in the form of a stretched rectangle and accommodates trapezoidal fog lamps on either side of the front bumper.

Moving towards the side, and the side profile of the T-King T1 have a lot of curved influences on it. The half of the side profile of the driver’s cabin is covered with a huge side window panel, which has an angular window beltline. The name of the truck, T1, is embossed on the door panel in an angular manner, with a blacked-out door handle present on the lower bottom right corner, above a curved crease flowing across the width of the door panel. The bottom left corner of the door panel comes fitted with a small amber turn indicator on it.

T-King T1 Ride & Handling

The T-King T1 is a 6-wheels truck with a 4x2 drive system. The truck gets steel leaf springs with shock absorbers at both ends. Thanks to a compact wheelbase, the T-King T1 has a small turning radius, making it an easy truck to drive and steer around. The truck gets hydraulic vacuum brakes at both ends.

T1 Engine & Fuel Consumption

The T-King T1 sources its power from a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which gets the assistance of both a turbocharger and an intercooler. Paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the engine produces a decent amount of torque output, which is rated at 172 Nm. However, the peak power output of this engine is not disclosed by QSJ Motors. The top speed rated for T-King T1 is 89 kmph.

T-King T1 Braking & Safety

Save for a lockable driver’s cabin and functional seat belts, the T-King T1 misses out on other modern safety features.

T1 Verdict

The T-King T1 is a decent truck with adequate features and performance on tap. While the fit and finish levels and after-sales experience leave a lot to be desired, the T-King T1 delivers much for the price it asks.
