The Fuso Canter FE73 is the range starting model from Fuso trucks in the category of light-duty trucks. In the Philippines market, the Fuso Canter FE73 has been made available in a single variant, which is offered in a single paint shade of white and with a diesel manual powertrain as standard.
On the inside, the cabin of the Fuso Canter FE73 is deigned not only ergonomically well, but also comes with a host of features which are right now missing in the light-duty category of trucks. This makes it one of the best places to be in when it comes to entry-level light-duty trucks.
The driver’s cockpit of the Fuso Canter FE73 has a simple design with a sharply raked steering wheel as well as a sober layout for the instrument console with analog dials. However, here, the driver gets a tilt and telescopic adjustability for the steering wheel, which is a segment-first.
The slightly protruding out center console of the dashboard here is finished in silver and gets two rectangular panels on it – the upper one having a 1-DIN audio system and the lower one having a panel for dials of manual AC. The rest of the dashboard here too has a simple design with bottle holders and open storage spaces integrated to make them look practical.
Among all the light-duty trucks available in the market, the Fuso Canter FE73 appears to belong to a lot of smarter looking ones. It does not have a very distinctive design language, but then, it looks good enough to not appeal as a dated looking vehicle.
Like all the trucks available right now from Fuso, the Fuso Canter FE73 too has a boxy front appearance, with the truck getting a conventional rectangular front windscreen. The lower edges of the front windscreen do get mounts for the large and extended design for the outside rearview mirrors, which are stretched a lot forward. Just below the front windscreen, there are two very thin horizontally laid faux air vents.
Talking about the front grille of the Fuso Canter FE73, it is shaped in a rounded trapezoidal manner with a sleek chrome line running in the center and the Mitsubishi logo below it. Adjacent to this front grille are placed trapezoidal headlamps placed in a vertical manner. While these headlamps are quite big and provide ample amount of illumination, they do lack LED elements, which make them look quite boring. The front bumper of the truck gets a trapezoidal-shaped silver garnish in the center which acts as the panel surrounding the license plate.
The side profile of the cabin of the Fuso Canter FE73 has a large window which has a tapering up window line to add some kind of athleticism to the design. There is a prominent character line which flows as the extension from the edge of the front headlamps and crossing through the door handles on the sides. The wheel arches above the front wheels are designed in a half trapezoidal manner, which goes in continuity with the rest of the chassis at the back.
The Fuso Canter FE73 gets laminated leaf springs at both the ends, with the front setup getting additional stabilizers to keep body roll under check. The reverse Elliot I beam front axle and fully floating rear axle are solid enough to make this compact truck sustain heavy loads with ease. The Fuso Canter FE73 is equipped with dual circuit hydraulic brakes with vacuum servo assistance.
Powering the Fuso Canter FE73 is a 3.0-litre inline-four diesel engine, which is married to a 5-speed gearbox. Here, the engine belts out a maximum power output of 125 PS, while the peak torque output of the truck is rated at 294 Nm.
The entry-level Fuso Canter FE73 doesn’t any kind of prominent safety feature, apart from a lockable cabin which features central locking mechanism.
The Fuso Canter FE73 has a very decent and quite modern approach in the entry-level light-duty truck category. The overall design of the truck in and out is not only eye-pleasing but also highly practical. The diesel engine might feel low on paper but is adequately powerful to make this truck a durable option for heavy load carrying duties.
If it comes to recommending one light truck to anyone, I would recommend the Fuso Canter FE73. I own an entire fleet of them, and I can say that it is the perfect choice for people who have small scale load carrying requirements. The truck has a pretty decent payload capacity marked at 2525 kgs, and the 3.0-litre in-line-4 turbocharged
I own a small grocery store that I recently expanded to a grocery delivery business. Naturally, I required a small yet sturdy transport vehicle for delivering all my products to nearby customers. A friend suggested the Fuso Canter FE 73 and I decided to go for it. I have been a proud owner of this vehicle for over a month
