Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation is a popular name in manufacturing trucks and buses. In the Philippines, it was previously handled by the MMPC, now the Sojitz Fuso Philippines Corporation takes over the charge for distribution. The Canter is one of the popular series of the manufacturer and the smallest variant in the series is FE71.
The Canter was launched back in 1963 in Japan and now it has entered in its eighth generation. Since its launch, the manufacturer updated the truck with new design, improved frames, new engines, new technologies, etc.
Getting inside, the Fuso Canter FE71 features a fairly nice and modern dashboard. The ruck has an LED dome light. On the dash, the manual gearbox is also present, It is the main reason for increasing the legroom. However, there is no sign of air conditioning inside the cabin. But a blower is present inside. Other features include a 12-volt cig lighter and ashtrays.

The Fuso Canter FE71 is a cab-over truck, which means the engine is provided just underneath the front cab. One can easily access the engine by tilting the entire cab. One has to pull a lever so that the master lock will be released. The lever is present on the passenger side. Then there is another lever, which one has to pull so that the cabin can tilt forward up.

Both the front and back suspensions are coupled with a hydraulic double acting telescopic shock absorber.
Due to its decent wheelbase, taking turns in the narrow roads or changing lanes in the highways become easy. Moreover, the quality ground clearance reduces the headache of harming the truck, while driving through the bumpy roads. Also, the driver’s job is easy just because of the presence of a power steering.
As for the powerplant department, the Fuso Canter FE71 comes with a 4M42-3AT2 model which is a four-stroke, turbocharged, direct-injection diesel engine displacing 3-litre. It is capable of churning out a maximum power of 125 PS along with a peak torque of 294 Nm. The maximum power and torque come at an engine rev range of 3,200 rpm and 1,700 rpm, respectively. The power is sent to the wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
Pertaining to its braking, there are hydraulic with vacuum servo assistance, dual-circuit brakes present. It is quite good and generally found in the heavy-duty trucks. The units are quite effective to stop the truck at a high speed. There is also an internal expanding type on the propeller shaft unit in the form of the parking brake.
The Fuso Canter FE71 comes with a lap belt for the driver as the standard safety feature.
