DOTr, TRB urge tollway operators to give discounts on Class 3 vehicles

MANILA: Both the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) have urged tollway operators to offer discounts on Class 3 vehicles.

According to Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, the two government agencies are already coordinating with toll operators to implement mitigating measures.
Class 3 vehicles are classified as trucks with three or more axles and a height exceeding 7.5 feet. These include heavy-duty trucks, large freight trucks, and container trucks.

“Isa pa sa inutos din ng ating Pangulo is to look for other interventions or mitigating measures, not necessarily through cash. So, tayo naman sa DOTR saka TRB, makikipag-usap tayo sa mga toll operators natin na pagdating sa mga provincial buses natin, sa mga sinasabi nating mga trucks that are for essential goods, agri-products, magbibigay sila ng diskwento dito sa mga toll fee natin (another order of our President is to look for other interventions or mitigating measures, not necessarily through cash. So, as for the DOTR and TRB, we will talk to our toll operators so that provincial buses and trucks carrying essential goods and agricultural products receive discounts on toll fees),” he said.
“At kami ay nagpapasalamat sa toll operators natin na sila naman ay sumasang-ayon, kasi we did the numbers, like sa mga bus, makakatipid sila ng mga P5 to P7 (And we are grateful to toll operators who agreed, because we did the numbers, like on buses, they will save about P5 to P7),” he added.
Officials shared that the current toll rates for Class 3 vehicles on the South Luzon Expressway and Skyway start at P102 and go up to P1,716 — depending on their entry and exit points.
On the other hand, Class 3 vehicles need to pay P254–P2,008 at the North Luzon Expressway; the amount varies depending on their entry and exit points.
Other efforts of the national government include the upcoming release of fuel subsidies for public utility vehicles, which will start next Tuesday.
