'Love Bus' returns to offer free rides to commuters

MANILA: First Lady Liza Marcos has reintroduced the Love Bus - a free public transport solution consisting of three all-electric bus units that can accommodate 36 passengers. 

These are said to promote emissions-free public transportation and were donated by various organizations. The aforementioned include Robinsons Mall, Megaworld, City of Antipolo, and Provincial Government of Rizal.

Notably, the Love Bus complements the government’s current efforts in improving mobility in communities and making it a commuter-friendly alternative to current options.

At the time of publishing, the Love Bus is already operational with the following routes: 

Eastbound route:

• Route starts at Robinsons Galleria (Ortigas Avenue), turn right onto Meralco Avenue, then left onto J. Vargas Ave. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) New Building, turn right at Lanuza Ave., turn left at CP Garcia Ave. (C5), turn to Arcovia City, then turn right at CP Garcia Ave. (C5), then C5 J Vargas Avenue Footbridge (near Eagle Street), to Bridgetowne/Opus Mall, then to Eastwood City.

 Westbound route:

• Route begins at Eastwood City, exit to CP Garcia Avenue via Orchard Road, take service road, U-turn underneath the Libis flyover, straight along CP Garcia Avenue (C5) Southbound, turn right at J Vargas Avenue, turn right at Sapphire Street, turn left towards the Robinsons Galleria ramp back to Robinsons PUV Stop along Ortigas Avenue

These routes are catered to by the newly relaunched Love Bus from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. For the convenience of commuters, all stops are equipped with waiting sheds. 

As MMDA Chairman Romando Artes shared, the Love Bus was designed to address the needs of underserved areas in the Metro. 

“Since rides are free, we need to ensure that the ‘Love Bus’ won’t compete with route franchises and that there are passengers to be served and no public transportation will be affected,” Artes said.

Additionally, the government has mentioned that they looking into expanding the Love Bus fleet with more units.
