Recent Updates of Kia Sonet
Positioned below the Seltos in terms of size and price, the Sonet serves as the smallest crossover in the lineup of Kia vehicles. In 2024, the latest facelift of the Sonet reached the Philippine shores with its latest upgrades. It is based on the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform that also underpins the Hyundai Stargazer and larger Kia Seltos. Its competitors include the GX3 Pro, MG ZS, Raize, and VinFast VF 3. It is offered in 6 colour options, including Imperial Blue, Snow White Pearl, Pewter Olive, Snow White Pearl With Black Roof, Vivid Red, and Vivid Red With Black Roof.
How many variants are there in the Kia Sonet?
There are three variants in the lineup of Kia Sonet in the Philippines car market – LX, EX and SX. All these three variants come with an automatic transmission as standard, though the base-spec LX variant also comes with a manual transmission, making the entry price more affordable.
How much is the price of the Kia Sonet in the Philippines?
The prices of the Kia Sonet in the Philippines start at PHP 758,000 for the base-spec LX MT, which goes up to PHP 1,138,000 for the top-spec SX AT. For the mid-spec variants, the LX AT, which is positioned above the LX MT, is priced at PHP 868,000, while the EX AT, sitting above LX AT in the lineup, is priced at PHP 978,000.
Which is the most value-for-money variant of the Kia Sonet?
While all the variants of the Kia Sonet are decently equipped as per their positioning, we do feel that the top-spec SX AT variant of the compact SUV is worth opting for. It is the only variant that gets features like fancier screens for the instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system, an ADAS suite of safety features and additional goodies like a sunroof, wireless charger, leather upholstery, auto AC, electronic stability control and hill start assist.
What features does the Kia Sonet get?
The latest update for the Kia Sonet has made it much more contemporary than before, and also a more upmarket option than all of the other similarly-priced compact SUVs or hatchbacks on sale. The exterior of the Kia Sonet looks fancier with aggressive-looking all-LED headlamps, LED DRLs, and tail lamps with connected LED light bars. It also gets 16-inch machined alloy wheels, roof rails, and front and rear silver skid plates.
The cabin of the Kia Sonet offers a premium and tech-laden experience with new-age features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch TFT instrument console, sunroof, wireless charger, automatic climate control, and leather upholstery. While most of these features are restricted to the top-spec SX AT variant, even other variants are decently equipped with features like a 6-speaker audio system, push start-stop button, remote engine start, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 4.2-inch TFT MID in the instrument console, manual AC and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
How spacious is it?
The Kia Sonet is a compact SUV, which has the footprints of a premium hatchback with a length of 4,110mm, a width of 1,790mm, and a height of 1,642mm (1,625mm in the base-spec LX variant as it misses out on roof rails). With a wheelbase of 2,500mm, the Kia Sonet offers good space for two full-sized adults at the back, though a third person might feel the lack of shoulder and leg room. Even the boot space is decent for a car of its price, though it can be increased easily, thanks to the added convenience of 60:40 folding rear seats in the EX and SX variants.
What engine and transmission options are available?
The standard powertrain offered in the entire lineup of the Kia Sonet is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is capable of producing a maximum power output of 115 PS and a peak torque output of 144 Nm. While a CVT gearbox is the standard transmission in all three variants, the base-spec LX variant is also offered with a 6-speed manual transmission.
What’s the mileage of the Kia Sonet?
Kia hasn’t disclosed the official fuel efficiency figures for the Sonet in the Philippines. However, the same engine and transmission combination delivers 17.9 kmpl in the Seltos (as claimed by Kia India). We believe that this engine-transmission combination should return 14-15 kmpl for the Kia Sonet in the usual driving conditions.
How safe is the Kia Sonet?
All the variants of the Kia Sonet get standard safety features like dual front airbags, ABS, reverse parking camera and sensors and ISOFIX mounts for child seats, with cruise control being offered in all automatic variants as standard. However, the top-spec SX AT variant also gets additional safety features like electronic stability control, hill hold assist and ADAS features like lane keeping assist, lane following assist, forward collision avoidance assist, downhill brake control, high beam assist, and driver attention warning.
How many colour options are there?
The two colour options offered as standard in all three variants – LX, EX and SX – of the Kia Sonet are Snow White Pearl and Vivid Red. While the EX and LX variants also come with an Imperial Blue colour scheme, the top-spec SX variant exclusively gets Snow White Pearl with a black roof, Vivid Red with a black roof, and Pewter Olive.
Should you buy the 2024 Kia Sonet?
The sub-compact SUV category is already a niche space in the Philippines car market and the Kia Sonet aces that space with its premium upmarket feel. It feels plush and well-built and can surpass even some of the larger compact SUVs with the level of fit and finish and equipment it gets. Adding to it, the proven 1.5-litre engine and platform from the Kia Seltos sold overseas makes it a reliable product in the long run. For those who want the feel of a taller SUV with the footprint of a hatchback, the Kia Sonet makes a lot of sense. However, one should note that the space at the rear is at a premium too.
What are my alternatives?
There are very few sub-compact SUVs in the Philippines car market, with the Kia Sonet being one of them. It is a direct alternative to other sub-compact SUVs like the Toyota Raize, KG Mobility Tivoli, and MG ZS. Besides this, it also competes with less-mainstream Chinese sub-compact and compact SUVs like JAC S2, GAC GS3 Emzoom, Changan CS15, Chery Tiggo 5X, and Kaicene CX70.
Other things to consider
Many people might not prefer the Kia Sonet due to the lack of room at the rear, which is less than even some of the hatchbacks. If backseat comfort is your priority in this space bracket, you can look for MPV and sedan options like Toyota Vios, Toyota Avanza, Honda City, Suzuki Ertiga, Suzuki Dzire, Nissan Almera, Volkswagen Santana, Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and Mitsubishi Xpander.
Kia Sonet Variant and Pricelist
The Kia Sonet price in the Philippines starts at ₱778,000. The lowest price variant is Sonet 1.5 LX MT and the top variant Sonet 1.5 SX AT priced at ₱1.178 Million. Kia Sonet automatic version price starts from ₱908,000. Sonet price for 4 variants is listed below.

Kia Sonet Review 2025
Abhishek Katariya says
The Kia Sonet is a compelling choice in the subcompact sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment. It offers a blend of style, features, and performance. The car was officially launched in the Philippines in June 2024.
This launch marked the South Korean automobile manufacturer’s strategic expansion into the competitive subcompact SUV segment.
Pricing and Variants
The Kia Sonet is available in three models in the Philippines. It has a starting price of ₱778,000. The price of the top-level trim starts at ₱1.178 million.
Pros and Cons
Pros: Affordably priced among rivals
Cons: Top-level model overpriced
Kia Sonet Interior & Features
The Kia Sonet's cabin exudes a premium feel, courtesy the high-quality materials and meticulous attention to detail. The dashboard features a richly textured top.
Soft-touch materials are limited, but quality textured plastics have been used. There are piano black inserts, brushed aluminium-style accents, and red contrast stitching in top-level trim. Buttons, knobs, and stalks feel durable and well-damped, and everything is within easy reach.
The front seats are large and supportive, with good thigh and lumbar support that make long trips comfortable. Ventilated seats are available in top variants. Driver’s seat height adjustment and tilt steering are standard across most models. But telescopic steering is missing, and many drivers may find that limiting.
Space on the rear seat is adequate for two adults. Three would be a squeeze. Legroom is decent, though taller passengers might feel a bit tight, particularly in headroom, because of the sloping roofline. The rear bench-type seat offers good back support and a comfortable recline angle.
The rear Air-conditioning vents, a central armrest with cup holders, and USB charging slots improve rear passenger convenience. The slightly raised floor because of the high transmission tunnel could be inconvenient for the middle passenger.
Kia has done a decent job of insulating the Sonet's cabin from road and engine noise.
Pros and Cons
Pros: Premium cabin quality
Cons: Non-split rear seats
Features and Technology
The Kia Sonet gets a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (available in top variants). It’s the centrepiece of the dashboard. It gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. It can be connected to the optional Kia Connect system with more than 60 features like remote engine start, climate control, live tracking, and geo-fencing. A premium BOSE seven-speaker audio system in higher trims provide excellent audio quality. The car gets advanced voice recognition for controlling infotainment, navigation, and even climate functions.
Most variants of the Kia Sonet get a 4.2-inch colour multi-information display (MID) display, flanked by analogue dials. It’s crisp and provides a range of data. Higher trims get a fully digital instrument cluster with dynamic animations and sharper graphics.
Pros and cons
Pros: Smart connectivity with Kia Connect
Cons: Touchscreen is often distracting
Boot Space and Storage
The Kia Sonet gets a boot space of 392 liters, making it one of the largest in the segment. The boot features a high loading lip, which may require more effort when loading heavy items. Additionally, the wheel arches slightly intrude into the boot space, potentially reducing the overall usable area for larger items. In the front, the central console offers a storage compartment with a sliding armrest. Dual cup holders are conveniently placed. The front doors are equipped with sizable pockets capable of holding water bottles and other essentials.
The rear seats are equipped with a foldable armrest that includes dual cup holders, enhancing comfort for rear passengers. Rear-seat passengers benefit from USB charging ports. Controls for the air purifier system are conveniently located at the back, complete with a color-coded display indicating the air quality inside the cabin.
Pros and Cons
Pros: Spacious boot
Cons: High loading lip
Sonet Exterior
The Kia Sonet measures 4,110 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. The Sonet sports Kia’s iconic ‘Tiger Nose’ grille. The mesh pattern within the grille is intricately detailed, often with chrome or gloss black accents depending on the variant. The sharp, angular projector headlamps are slim and seamlessly integrated into the grille structure. The car gets all-around LED lighting. The front bumper features an aggressive lower lip with a large, functional air intake. Integrated fog lamps are neatly tucked into vertical housings.
On the sides, the Kia Sonet gets crisp character lines that run across the doors and rear quarter panels. The squared-off wheel arches are subtly flared. Depending on the trim, the car runs on 15-inch or 16-inch alloy wheels. A blacked-out C-pillar and contrast roof forges a ‘floating roof’ illusion.
The rear-end of the car is defined by the ‘Heartbeat’ taillights joined by a reflector strip. It’s not a light bar. There’s an integrated roof spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp. The dual-tone rear bumper includes a silver skid plate and decorative twin muffler-like chrome accents. The car’s 205mm ground clearance is subtly emphasized by the bumper height and black cladding.
The Kia Sonet is available in Imperial Blue, Snow White Pearl, Pewter Olive, Snow White Pearl with Black Roof, Vivid Red, and Vivid Red with Black Roof colour options.
Pros and cons
Pros: Striking visual appeal
Cons: Lack of distinctiveness in lower trims
Kia Sonet Ride & Handling
On city streets, the Kia Sonet’s ride quality is well-sorted and comfortable for the most part. Over potholes, speed bumps, and patchy roads, the subcompact SUV absorbs undulations with minimal cabin intrusion. The ride can feel a bit firm at very low speeds. The suspension soaks up minor imperfections confidently. However, sharper bumps and deep potholes can send noticeable thuds into the cabin if taken at speed.
On highways the Kia Sonet offers a planted and composed ride. The car remains stable at triple-digit speeds, with minimal vertical movement over long wave undulations. Passengers will find the ride supportive over long trips.
The light steering is perfect for urban driving. It’s effortless and responsive in tight spots. On highways, the car weighs up slightly at higher speeds. It lacks the connected feeling and heft that driving enthusiasts often prefer. The Kia Sonet handles corners with confidence. There's some body roll, as expected from an SUV, but its within control.
Pros: Sharp handling
Cons: Ride quality sometimes get stiff
Sonet Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Kia Sonet is equipped with a naturally aspirated, four-cylinder, 1.5-litre Smartstream petrol engine that produces 115 PS/144Nm. This engine is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or Kia’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). It offers a smooth and responsive power delivery, making it well-suited for both city driving and highway cruising.
Despite its naturally aspirated powertrain, the Kia Sonet's engine provides adequate performance for daily driving needs. Its lightweight construction contributes to a lively driving experience, particularly on city roads. The car’s compact dimensions and light steering make maneuvering through traffic and tight spaces effortless. The IVT ensures smooth acceleration.
On open roads, the Kia Sonet maintains stability and composure. The steering, while light at low speeds, provides adequate feedback at higher velocities, enhancing driver confidence.
Pros and cons
Pros: Efficient powertrain
Cons: Limited rear seat space
Kia Sonet Braking & Safety
The Kia Sonet comes with Level 1 advanced driver-assist features (ADAS). It comprises 10 autonomous features that enhance driver assistance and safety. These features are available exclusively in the top-spec SX model. The top variants are equipped with an advanced 360-degree camera system to aid in driving and parking. It provides a bird's-eye view of the vehicle's surroundings, facilitating easier parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces. The blind-view monitor displays live feed of the vehicle's blind spots on the instrument cluster when the turn indicators are activated.
Other features include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) and vehicle stability management (VSM), hill-start control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an emergency stop signal.
Pros and cons
Pros: Comprehensive safety system
Cons: Camera-based ADAS has some limitations
Sonet Verdict
Competitor Comparison
The Toyota Raize is a close competitor of the Kia Sonet. Both are compact SUVs, but they differ in design, features, and performance. The Kia Sonet offers a more stylish design with a bold front grille and sleek lines. It has a modern infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, offering a more tech-focused interior. The Toyota Raize, on the other hand, is more conservative in design with a focus on practicality. It offers a smooth driving experience with efficient fuel economy. The Sonet has more powertrain options, while the Raize excels in safety features and reliability, typical of Toyota.
Conclusion and Final Verdict
The Kia Sonet impresses with its stylish design, feature-rich interior, and efficient performance. It strikes a great balance between comfort and practicality, making it a great choice in the subcompact SUV segment. Overall, the Sonet offers excellent value for money and is a worthy contender in its class.
