  • About KIA Philippines

    Founded in June 1944 as a manufacturer of steel tubing and bicycles, KIA Motors Corporation is South Korea’s oldest automotive manufacturer. In the ‘50s, KIA Motors went full-on building bicycles, then venturing into building trucks in the ‘60s. 

    When the ‘70s began, it finally was able to manufacture automobiles. However, due to Korea’s new policies, which its military was greatly involved in, KIA Motors had to cut short its car manufacturing and instead concentrate on building light trucks. Car production resumed in the late ‘80s, in partnership with Ford-Mazda.

    In the ‘90s, Kia hit rock-bottom due to the Asian Financial crisis that forced it to file for bankruptcy. Hyundai Motor Company came to its rescue and acquired 51% of its shares. This prompted years of success for both Korean carmakers until today. In 2019, the Kia brand is one of the most awarded in the industry, boasting numerous awards from Kelley Blue Book, J.D. Power, and Interbrand.

    In the Philippines, KIA Motors began its operation in May 1994. Under the wing of the Columbian Autocar Corporation (CAC), but now, the brand is under the wing of the Ayala Corporation, which revamped the entire vehicle lineup in the country. Today, Kia Philippines offers a roster of quality motor vehicles like the Soluto, Rio, Forte, Seltos, Sportage, Sorento, Stinger, Grand Carnival, and K2500.

    Talking about its sales performance, in the most recent news, Kia Philippines has posted a record-breaking 124% year-on-year growth in the Philippine market. This growth is suspected to come as a result of new leadership under the Ayala Group of Companies. The brand was acquired in the early half of 2019. 

    Lastly, during its re-launch, the brand brought in some excitement with the unboxing of the Soluto and with a teaser of two new vehicles that it would bring into the market. These would later be the Stinger and the Seltos, as well as a refreshed lineup of vehicles for 2019.
